I'll be upgrading my radio to the Extreme Edition when it becomes available.

Kudos to Uniden for really taking advantage of the HP-1 hardware to create an awesome automated data logging device. I really hope it leads to more information getting submitted into the DB.

Also kudos for the 'negative delay'. I thought it was a clever feature in the BC780XLT, and glad to see it picked up in the newer radio.

Regarding the new geo tagging abilty. When will the RR.com db be updated to accept the new tags? Will the updates include new county tags that use the more granular geotags?

So the mid-August/September or later units will still need to be activated in sentinal by the user to get the free upgrade? Is that how i understand it?

Probably just too many requests for the site as people flogged to the home patrol site to check if the update was there.

Actually, units manufactured after mid-August will have the update. However, those probably won't arrive in the US until some time in September (plus, we do normally have some inventory on hand). So, some time in September or October, units will start being sold that are factory pre-loaded with the update (but not activated for the upgrade).

Glad I didn't glance at my phone during dinner. I would have seen reports of the site being down and left some good food on the table. Don't know what was going on, but fortunately it seems OK, now.

Limit Searches - how many will be allowed? For example, can I set up VHF-Hi in 2 MHz blocks and search any or all of them at one time? Can System Quick Keys be assigned to each one? If so, how many.

During such a search, can NAC/CTCSS/DCS be decoded at the same time or will the user have to set up an analog search separate from a digital search?

Will all the neat visual trunking tools be available during searches to analyze search results?

For example, if I Limit Search VHF-Hi and get a digital signal, I want to be able to hear it and get the NAC. If it is mixed digital/analog system or even if I continue to scan, I want to be able to hear the conversation and show the CTCSS/DCS tones when it is an analog signal WITHOUT any settings changes like is needed with the current x96XT series.

In Conventional Discovery Mode, The CTCSS/DCS/NAC is automatic. No special settings. The log results will display Time Stamp, Audio Recording, and CTCSS/DCS/NAC Tones, if any.

Without getting into detail... I personally consider in this case these updates and upgrades to be the same thing (both firmware updates that are adding features) just one paid and one free.

But fine according to Uniden yes the UPDATE is FREE
the UPGRADE is PAID.

Semantics.

........................ free upgrade? ..........................................

Free "UPDATE"
Paid "UPGRADE"

Re-read all posts carefully!

what ever happen to the updates for the 996XT? Uniden was suppose to do this for that scanner and the they pushed it aside and came out with the HP-1 which they will do the same thing too. I'm not buying any HP-1

Yes. It was the update that added support for Unit IDs (a new feature). The question was what happened to it, so I provided the link. Probably should not have fed the OT response.

I have the intros and outros all recorded. When I shot those, the software itself wasn't quite ready to be in front of a camera. The software is maturing rapidly, and I have about 8 more videos planned for different aspects of the update. My goal is to work on those next week. I'll start with the changes in the Sentinel software, but also have planned featurettes on all the new modes.

I'm excited about the release of the updates / upgrades but the upgrade price has me a little concerned. I've seen this happen before with other vendors were they planned on announcing a price of an upgrade and then later held off releasing the information at the last minute due to some technical reason, etc so it wouldn't effect sales of the current item with news of upgrades on the horizon. Then when the priced was released for the long awaited upgrade people were shocked when it was almost $100. Previous upgrades were only around $40. There reasoning behind the huge price increase was in there words "due to the development team having to start from the ground up and the time/effort involved in designing the new features, etc" was why they felt they needed to price the upgrade so high.

Everyone was pissed at first but after the dust settled people started paying the $100 for the upgrade. It was one of those did we need it? If we didn't then we were left behind and didn't have the features that others were experiencing.

With all that said, don't be shocked when Uniden finally releases the price because regardless of what it is, there will be those who will pay regardless of what it is just to have the latest and greatest, myself include. Again I could be wrong but as I've said before, I've seen this before so I'm a little apprehensive with the sudden delay in price release after it was original announced that it would be released.

If you ever had experance with software programs or games like flight simulator, PMDG, or any of the FPS games, then you know what I'm talking about.
