I am in the same situation, no out door antennas. So I am useing Radio Shack magnet mount antenna covers 25 to 1300 MHz. I use 4 of these for 4 different scanners two of them Homepatrol they work very good what I did was to mount them on a pizza pan (bigger the better), on my second floor indoor. You do need the adpter but thats no big thing at all. This should make your day for inside your home. Works real good for anything you can hear on the HP.

My happy Camper Status will go up) I kind of wonder if the Firm Wear Updates i Got might have some cause of this! it seemed not to do this when i first got my Radio...

Hey everyone,

First post here at RR and new owner of a HomePatrol-1. Bought it a week or so ago after about a decade away from scanning, and I must admit that I love this sucker. I'm on the fence on the Extreme upgrade and figuring I'm going to get to know the initial features first.

To Bear's question, I'm using an OPEK VUCM-301 series minimag scanner antenna. It's providing great coverage in the 800mhz range (live in Austin listening to the P25 regional radio system). It's also doing well at picking up VHF/UHF from Austin Bergstrom Airport (although the UHF comes in better than VHF typically).

I have a SWA-M > BNC-F adapter, and have the antenna stuck to a metal can top next to the window, using the 9-foot cord to get to my desk.

So far, so good...

GO on the internet do the www thing and go to N9TAX website he sells a very nice dual band modified pole for hams to transmit with but i use one on my BCD996XT everything comes in just dandy and you tell him what kind of connector you want on the coax it comes with it and to mount it unroll it and put it up with a thumb tack it will receive anything your scanner is capable of receiving and i say that because i use it myself and if you move take the tack out roll it back up secure it with the velcro strap and put in your box with the radio i think it 27.99$ remember to get the dual band UHF/VHF 2/440 and enjoy and remember you have just helped support the scanner ham community rather than some big company who mass produces junk this is a hobbyist who makes things in his garage when you order it ,just remember to tell Himwhat CONNECTOR YOU WANT ON THE END SO YOU GET THE ONE YOU WANT.
Peace

Taken right from the web page.

For those looking for a scanner antenna look no farther our Dual band Slim Jims offer complete receive coverage of commercial and public service bands.

There are 2 models available one comes with a 16 foot lead ($27.99) and the other is six foot tip to connector ($22.99). Hope this helps.

I used a mobile antenna indoors while living on the upper floors in apartment buildings. Several of my scanners worked fine with a mobile antenna located near a window. When I bought my HP-1 I connected it to a mobile antenna with an SMA adapter.Reception was very good.

When I move back into an apartment in the future I expect to use the same setup. If you can place a mobile antenna on a balcony, the signal strength will be even better than indoors. This usually isn't a problem because the wire leading to the antenna is thin, and the antenna itself is small enough that most people either cannot view it from the ground floor, or they won't notice it.

The SpectrumForce antenna from ScannerMaster has been out of stock for quite some time, probably because of low cost and high demand. I recall seeing at least one seller on eBay offering a mobile antenna with an SMA connector for about $30, if you don't like the idea of using an adapter. Whatever you choose should provide much better reception than the antenna that comes with the HP-1.

I bought a SpectrumForce from Scanner Master 2 weeks ago, so I'd just keep checking back...so far, pleased with it on my vehicle...

Home Patrol Antenna

I purchased the home patrol upgrade antenna seen on ebay and it works very well. Better then then the stock antenna that came with the unit.
