Not sure what to assign as HP-1 "LOCATION". The Trunk System I listen to, has a tower a mile from my house. Another site ( same system ) is located 25 miles away. Do I use the "Home Town" zip code or one half way in between sites. I don't pretend to understand how trunk systems work. I don't know if all transmissions are sent to all towers. Any help will be appreciated. Thank you for your time. System is ETSB for Peoria Co and the radios are BCD536hp & HP-1.

For the system you mention, it is a simulcast, so all of those towers, the one near you, others farther away, are all transmitting the same thing at the same time. That's why sometimes you get simulcast distortion. You can see the actual sites in use here.

The system is in the database with a range of 20 miles specified. For the HomePatrol series of scanners, such as your HP-1 and 536HP, if the range circle of the system intersects with the range circle you set for your location, the system will be enabled. See How it Works: Location, Location, Location

One of the database admins may offer a correction, but I think that the center-point of the range circle for the system is set as the center of the jurisdictional area that the system covers.

In general, I believe it is best to use the current location where the scanner is located. That way it will not waste time scanning towers that are beyond the reception distance you have set.
