I realize that what I am about to ask defeats the purpose of the Homepatrol, but here goes:

With the extreme upgrade, is it possible to delete all of the RR database information from the scanner, and use sentinel or another aftermarket package to enter in all custom systems and settings? I am more of an advanced user and I am interested in replacing my vehicle-mounted BCD996T with a Homepatrol to take advantage of the Extreme Upgrade's conventional discovery and trunking system monitor capabilities.

I have very specific ways that I set up my gear, that's why I ask before I end up wasting $600.

There is no way to directly edit or delete the HP-1's main database, extreme upgrade or not. If you try to delete the HPDB folder off the SD card in order to delete the entire RR database, the unit will not function.

Now, with that being said, you can set the unit up to completely ignore the main database and use only your favorites lists. That would accomplish exactly what you are going for, and you'd never see the main database unless you explicitly told the HP-1 to start using it again.

By the way, you can download and use Sentinel even if you don't own an HP-1. I would recommend doing so in order to get the feel of creating favorite lists and whatnot. You might even find that having the full RR database in the software is helpful if you plan on monitoring certain systems that are already setup in the RR database, as it's very easy to copy those systems over to a new favorites list, which you can then further tweak if necessary.

I've downloaded Sentinel to play around with it.. seems fairly straight forward, although I can't figure out how to create systems and channels with it....

On the toolbar, the 5th icon is a star with a pencil. Click that and create a new favorites list. That will take you to the editor.

Butel arc patrol makes creating favorites
List very simple.
It's what I use for that function.

I only use favorites... I have never scanned the actual database...

Similar but I do use the entire DB on mobile trips to unknown areas. Otherwise it's always a fav.

Have the extreme but do not use the advanced features very often, they are very powerful.

As Chauffeur6 said, use the "star with pencil" icon (or press Ctrl+2 while in Sentinel's main screen).

It's possible to "import" data into favorites files by creating them in Sentinel then pasting the info from, say, an Excel spreadsheet. One of the easier ways to get this done is to create enough data in a Favorites file to the point where you have a line of data for an example frequency "channel" (assuming conventional data as opposed to trunked), then highlighting that line and Ctrl+C'ing it. Then paste that line into your Excel spreadsheet - move your existing data around to match the columns & formats of the sample data; copy your data from the Excel sheet, then highlight the row of sample data in Sentinel and hit Ctrl+V. The Sentinel favorites editor will automatically add as many rows as necessary to fill out your data. You'd still have to manually edit things like location information, and to categorize the data by system & group/department.
