Horry County Questions

Hey all!

I'm heading to Myrtle Beach this summer and want to start programming my radio. There's a few things I see in the RR DB that I don't understand.

1) North Myrtle Beach - The main Horry County page has a note on the Horry800 system that says NMB is not part of the system. If you go into Horry800, there's an entire section devoted to NMB. Are the North Myrtle talkgroups in the Horry County system still valid? If not, why are they there?

2) Myrtle Beach - The main Horry County page has a note on the Horry800 system that says MB is not part of the system. If you go into Horry800, there's an entire section devoted to MB. Are the Myrtle talkgroups in the Horry County system still valid? If not, why are they there? Are the analog fire and police freqs still used?

3) Surfside Beach - The main Horry County page has a list of conventional freqs for Surfide Beach Fire. It also says that PD/Fire traffic is carried on Myrtle Beach Communications. If you go into Horry800, there's an entire section devoted to SURFDISE (not SURFSIDE). I'm assuming that's just a typo. Does Surfside still use the Horry system? If not, why are they listed in Horry County? Are the analog fire channels still valid?

4) Conway - Basically same questions. Are the analog channels used?

I moved away from the area in 99, but I can help as I go back every year.

#1 Horry Co. setup TGs for NMB on their system. They never used they and finally setup their own 800 system. Sometimes the Horry Co. Officers would use some of the NMB TGs to chit-chat when they did not want to use an I-call (They refered to them as PLs as in Private Line, I showed them that they were not private :lol: )

#2 MB used to use the Horry Co. 800 system. I have not been down since the note about their own system going active. I'd have to assume whoever sent that knew what they were talking about so you should program the new MB system. You may want to program the MB/Horry 800 TGs as they may be used for mutual aid, or other big events.

#3 Surfside PD used a private SMR, but are finally changing over to Horry Co. 800. When Horry setup the 800 system, they setup TGs for everybody at once. It was up to them to decide when they wanted to switch over.

#4 The PD is on Horry Co. 800, have been for a long time. Fire was on VHF, but I'm unsure if they are on 800 now. <<Edit>> Looking at the DB, I don't see any TGs for Conway Fire. They could be using County Fire TGs though. Stranger thangs have happened :lol:


As far as the "analog channels", they are all analog channels. I know what you mean

In 99, Horry Co, Fire & EMS and MB Fire simlucast the dispatch on VHF & 800. County Fire was mostly using VHF, while MB Fire & County EMS was using 800..

What kind of scanner are you using? Can you post your file when you're finished? I'm going to be programming a P93 file this weekend.

When are you going? Next week is the start on the Harley group's weeklong meeting. Memeroal Day weekend is the "Black Bikers" weekend (I'm not sure what they refer to it as now). At both times, lots of otherwise inactive TGs will be active. Program anything like SLED, Feds, and anything else you can to listen. Lots of fun listening to the gang activity.

SLED VHF use to be hopping a lot at that time also, but I'm not sure if they will use Horry 800, or Palmetto 800 either.

Horry County

I live and work in horry county. The MNB, MB, & SB information listed on the county system along with schp aren't used except during special events.

As far as the conventional freqs. yes they are still used for Fire & EMS mostly for tone outs except for surfside who still relise on VHF for fire communication.

Surfside along with the above listed agencies were on the county system to begin with but due to lack of coverage and not being able to compensate with the growth at the time moved to different systems.

In the near future Surfside PD will switch back to the county system due to a new tower up in our end of the area, and the county says they now can handle to the extra load.

I take it SCHP went to Pal 800, when did they go?

Are the county volenteers using VHF for responce, or are some also issued 800 HTs? I'm curious who is getting the HTs if they are.

Do you know how many County Fire stations are manned with paid staff now? I remember they were going to start hiring more daytime personal years ago.

Yes SCHP went to the palmetto system, as for county fire they still use vhf mostly for toneouts, and there still alot of traffic on their vhf repeater but most of the traffic is carried on 800.

They are issuing some 800's to the volunteers, but alot of them are buying them and donating them to the county so they can get them programmed.

Alot of the volunteer stations have day crews while bigger stations like 1,4,7, 23 and others are 24hrs.

Fire & EMS merged or if you will fire over took ems about 3 or 4 years ago.

Wow, I didn't know about the merger. When I'm in town, it's only for a day or two and I haven't been listening much (the G/F might frown on that).

Confused And Need Help Please

i Recently Got a pro94 prgmable type but no cable yet,not for a while . wondering when you enter the Trnk freqs can you just put the control ch`s in or must you put all ch`s in .for as many ID`s as Horry County has would you enter the same control channels in each bank to be able to enter all the ID`s ? or how could it be done . any help would be appreaciated . thankyou

I saw your other post, but I'll answer here. I don't delieve the 94 will do control ch. onlky scanning. It's been several years since I've programmed a TRS, and when I did I put in all the freqs out of habit with an old Pro 90.

If you have the 94B, you are supposed to be able to program with the PC, but I'm not aware of what software you'd use.

Do you live in Horry Co? That way you can try to narrow down what TGs you'll relly need.

To be perfectlt honest, the alpha display scanners (95, 96, 97) are better for monitoring a trunked system. Having to remember which TGs are what by their number is a pain. Trust me, I had to do it with my old Pro 90 for years :lol:

i live in horry county little river area ,would be nice to get a better scanner but this will have to do for now ,yea they say there is software to program it but i havent found it yet . any help with the layout would be great . has 1000 channels so just have to make up cheat sheets for id`s .
