From Larimer County Sheriff's Office:

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Shorty after 2:00 P.M. on May 12, 2008, Larimer County Dispatch received a report of a possibly drowning incident at Satanka Cove on the north end of Horsetooth Reservoir. Larimer County Dive Rescue, Larimer County Sheriffs Office Emergency Services Poudre Fire Authority and Larimer County Parks and Open Lands responded to the scene.
It was reported by witnesses that as a fisherman moored his boat in the cove, the mooring apparently came loose. The fisherman then dove in and swam towards boat. When his boat went father out, he attempted to swim back to shore and went under. Witnesses on scene dove in and dragged him to shore. PFA performed CPR and he was ultimately transported by helicopter to Medical Center of the Rockies.
Identification will not be released by this agency.

A 54-year-old Fort Collins man drowned on Monday afternoon in Horsetooth Reservoir after trying to retrieve a boat at Satanka Cove, which is on the north end of the reservoir.

Richard P. Weisel had recently tied up his boat when the moors appeared to come loose, sending the boat drifting into the reservoir, according to a release by the Larimer County Sheriff's Office. Weisel then jumped in to retrieve the boat but went underwater.

Some people saw him from the shore and jumped in, the release said. They managed to pull Weisel back to the shore and begin CPR before he was taken by helicopter to Medical Center of the Rockies.

An autopsy is planned for this morning, according to Diane Fairman, a Larimer County coroner.
