BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - A wild police chase involving Birmingham police, Jefferson County sheriff's deputies, state troopers and Hoover police ended around noon today when a suspect driving a van crashed into a Hoover police cruiser on Highway 31 at the onramp to Interstate 459 north.
Authorities said the injured officer was taken to Brookwood Hospital for undisclosed injuries.
Birmingham police said the chase started at the Druid Hills area. The suspect reportedly drove around a set of spike strips which had been placed on I-459 near the Acton Road exit. Police said the suspect got off the interstate near the Galleria exit, then crashed in an attempt to get back on I-459.
Officers took the unnamed individual into custody.
