I just put a Zumspot Elite in service and it works great except... I use an old tablet for a hotspot through AT&T, and I can't connect my computer and the Zumspot together. The local cable company isn't an option, as we've had our differences over them lying about my bills. I was thinking about getting a hotspot with the ability to handle multiple appliances, possibly a NetGear 7 from AT&T but any/all options are on the table. Right now the computer is connected to my Iphone, and the Zumspot uses the old tablet. The tablet is paid for, and I have a newish Ipad that I like, so I wanted to get rid of the old Android tablet anyway.

Also, I have heard of another phone company (Tello?) that's cheaper, anybody use them and would I need a data plan like I imagine I would? Do I need to wait until everything is paid for (Iphone, Ipad) or can I just switch and just pay AT&T for the devices while using someone else?

I don't know how many questions you're asking here but I've connected multiple Hot Spots thru my iPhone without issue. So if that answers any of the above then ok. I use T-Mobile which was Sprint a while back.

You do not "connect" a hotspot to a computer. The only thing the computer is used for is its web browser. You enter the IP address of your hotspot and from there you can see your dashboard.

I think the OP is referring to a wireless access point / Internet router as a “hotspot” which is adding confusion to this thread. What the OP appears to be asking about is Internet service … perhaps via a NETGEAR 7 router from AT&T (or similar). NETGEAR does not make or sell radio “hotspots” for use with radios in the Amateur Radio digital voice services.

Ok, I’ll try this again, and just ask. I don’t want to use my iPhone all the time as a hotspot, and the old tablet needs to go. What is a good quality hotspot
/wireless access point/router that will “connect “ my computer, my Zumspot, and anything else all at the same time, in a more or less permanent setup. Never mind the question about Tello, I’ll figure that out myself

You'd be better off asking someone in your area about this. What works for me here, may not work for you out there. Hotspot "brand" isn't necessarily as important as which phone network it's gonna be on. Each Carrier has different types from what I found out when I went looking. Eventually, though I found my need for one just didn't justify the price for what I was using it for. Good luck in finding what you need.

You’re probably right, I just don’t have anybody to ask. Long story short, I’m kind of a hermit, go to work but that’s about it. I asked the dog, got nothing, lol.

I used a Verizon hot spot for well over 10 years in my location waiting on cable or fiber internet.

So who do you have Cellphone Service through?
Verizon sells a device like you are wanting to use but 1 of my customers had problems with the service the modem kept dropping the NVR that was connected to the wired side of the device and customer support was no help. I tested with my wired laptop same problem customer support said use wifi and you would have no problem. The customer changed ISP's and the problem went away and no it was not a port forwarding. The hardwired connections would disconnect from the network after 15 minutes.
So you need to talk to users in your area to see what they are using.

In my first post I aid I have AT&T, guess I'll call them.
Probably going to get more accurate advice and answers than most here could give. I tend not to give out answers I don't actually know (or believe I actually know) the answer to. Going to the people that will handle your service will actually be the best answer albeit sometimes an over zealous sales person gets in the way. Good luck!

I have been using Tello for my mother (elder) and my teenaged daughter for about a year. The plan we have for each is $10 per month for unlimited talk and text. The data is limited to 2 GB... Unlimited data only is $25/mo. Tello uses the T-Mobile towers in my area of Ohio. Best of luck -KC8DSZ

Thank you! I have called several lower cost carriers, and basically what it comes down to is I need to own my phone. Most won’t do a transfer as long as I owe AT&T. But as soon as that phone is mine……lol.

Just curious as to which digital mode you are looking to use. You do have a local DMR machine connected to Brandmeister in your area.

I have a couple actually, but I’m wanting on several others. TGIF, Fusion, a few more. I Have the Zumspot sitting there saying it’s idle, just can’t seem to get it to show up on my computer. Tried WiFi, Ethernet from the laptop to the Zumspot, Ethernet from my new AT&T Hotspot to the Zumspot, nada.
