Recently purchased a Uniden BCT436HP. I downloaded sentinal and followed all instructions. I'm disappointed with the results so far. I hear a fraction of what I expected to and often just hear the tail end of an exchange. Is there a club for scanners in this area? I think sitting down with someone who knows what they are doing would be helpful. Thanks.
Welcome to RadioReference, dcaven
I would suggest that you make sure that your database in Sentinel is up to date, and that it has been written to the scanner. Also make sure that your location is correct. As for Service Types, only "Dispatch" types for Law, Fire, EMS, & Multi (dispatch) are enabled by default. Be sure to also turn on the Tac & Talk types as well (Law Talk, Fire Tac, Multi-Tac, etc).
I'm presuming you mean "Houston, TX"; there are also several 'Houston Counties' around the country. As far as 'local' help goes, I don't know if there is an active 'club' in the Houston Metro area. However, a number of Houston area members stop by & post in the Texas Regional forum. You might ask that your thread be moved to that forum, where it's more likely to be seen by someone in your area. (I'm in Dallas.) To do that, do
not create a new thread. Instead, click on the red outlined triangle in the upper right corner of your original post, and request that a moderator move your thread to the Texas state forum. Someone in the area would be more likely to see it there.
Also, you might join and post on the
HoustonScan Yahoo group. That covers your area, and you might be able to find a local source there to assist you.
