I have no pictures but the 500 is a monster compared to the 396 and about the same size as the 96.

The PSR-500 is right in between the Pro-96 and the BCD396T in size. If you look at the specs, you'll notice there's actually not that "monster" of a difference:

GRE PSR-500: 5.71" x 2.56" x 1.65", Weight: 8.5 oz (without battery)

Uniden BCD396T: 5.35" x 2.40" x 1.22", Weight: 6.4 oz (without battery)

In fact, the GREs are closer in size to what Public Safety personnel has to carry while doing their job. The GREs just looks that much bigger than the BCD396T and many of us prefer it like that for many reasons. But like many other things between those radios, it's all personal preference....

Look at the pictures above and you will see there is a pretty big difference.

I don't have to look at the pictures, I have all three in front of me right now, side by side. The PSR-500 is smaller than the Pro-96 and the biggest "tangible" difference between the BCD396T and the PSR-500 is the thickness when you're holding them one in each hand. However, when taking into consideration the belt-clips, the BCD396T is more cumbersome to hold in your hand.

Also, I know this might also be considered nit-picking (it goes both ways anyway) but the size trade-off for a smaller size radio becomes negligible in the end, especially when considering the usual better audio, etc. on the GRE. I used the BCD396T exclusively on a daily basis for a long time and I had no problems adjusting to the (yes, I still believe) slightly bigger size of the PSR-500. In other words, I don't think the size difference should be a deal-breaker when somebody is trying to decide between one and the other.

BUT as they say: YOMV (Your Opinion Might Vary)......
