Hello, newbie here. I would like to construct an outdoor FM broadcast band antenna that I can attach my SDR stick to. I also would like to encapsulate the antenna and SDR stick in a plastic style sleeve for wiring that I saw in Home Depot. The antenna will be about 15 feet from my laptop so will I need a powered USB cable or will a regular cable be sufficient without any line loss? Thanks in advance and Happy July 4th.

Thanks for responding. I have an RTL-SDR RTL2832U R820T2 TXCO+Bias T+HF stick in an aluminum enclosure. It has an SMA connector on one end and a USB connector on the other end. I already have some Stereos but would like to see the signals from 88 to 108 MHz like in the Youtube videos where you can actually see the spectrum while you listen to the audio on a laptop. I heard it also decodes the RDS information too. Thanks.

I know you said homemade I am not an antenna guru but I would suggest something like this if you don't already have something that will pick up the FM broadcast band. Any antenna should be able to pick up the radio stations. There are also smallish magnet mount bases if you need to move the antenna away from the SDR.
