This is kind of a follow up to the SK, QK, NT thread. My real question about this system is, how can I enable/disable systems that don't use system keys. This also applies to the 996.

lockout what you don't want, just press the lockout button twice in rapid succession or until the screen says locked out.

could you be a bit more specific ?
one answer could be hit the function button and then lockout twice to lockout the system.

I suspect you are talking about a P25 trunk system. If so, you assign the “System” number or key to the SITE entry that contains the list of frequencies to scan for that trunk system. The SITE name is usually associated with some physical location where the transmission tower is located. There could be multiple sites, so to turn the entire “System” off, assign the same system key to all sites for the trunk system.

With the 325P2 or 996P2, you could use the keypad. Or you could go into settings for one of the groups or sites, and then enable lockout. The lockout can be temporary or permanent. The temporary lockouts are 'forgotten' when you turn the scanner off. The permanent lockout turns back on only after you go back in to settings and turn it back on.
