• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

how can ya stand it?

it is no lie when I tell you that this is EXACTLY the way CB was when I unplugged my base for the last time in 1975 out of pure frustration. These guys speak EXACTLY the same as the guys did 35 years ago right down to the word "duckplucker"?? which was popular then...it is as if they are lost souls caught in radio hell.

Hmmm, at least there are fewer idiots on CB than there were before the cannibalistic feeding frenzy. Well maybe not, they could all be squished into channels 6 (the Super Bowel) and 19 (the Road Kill Cafe). Take solace in knowing there are a few pockets of sanity and even silence... if you can find them.

Don't worry, there should be fewer of them on CB as they migrate into the ham bands.

"By the way guys click the picture in the first post for the video."
That was about 10 seconds taken out of my life, now please be kind enough to return them in exchange for my headache.

You need a good dose of STFU!

Simple I know when to listen and I know when to turn the CB off and the HAM radio on. CB is a great tool for road info most of the time, and if you're driving during the work week during the day it can keep you out of a 3 hour backup, warn you of your tail light being out before you get pulled over, and get someone to call you a tow truck when you're in the geographic majority of the country that has poor to no cell coverage. Some spots I've heard it be ragchew that had the professional attitude of most 2m repeaters without the range or call signs, but not as often.

Now when it turns foul I shut it off turn up the ham radio or the scanner and just keep driving out of range of the immature CB'ers, one person does not make the group.

Unfortunately, some if this "Immortal Tripe" has made to Ham as well. Out here in So-Cal we have the infamous 147.435 or "435". Cussers, jammers, Music playing, verbal fights, crazy ranters and ravers for Days at a time. I too stopped listening in 1993 only to tune in in 2008 and what did I hear?, the SAME crap. Unbelievable.

Wish they would stay on CB

Attrition in the CB ranks is partly due to "Ham-Cram" and operators with FCC issued licenses putting up with "10-4 good buddy" on the ham bands. It's funny to me that when I talk politics or religion on HF or VHF/UHF people will tell me it's a no-no, but if somebody tells me my signal is "wall to wall and tree top tall",nobody blinks an eye. I love ham radio, but people need to get their priorities straight before the ham bands become the "super bowel"...

I will point out that that was on channel 6 aka "Da' Bowl", if I could remove it from my radio I would. I swear every guy on that channel sounds exactly alike. They just annoy me. A typical conversation on that channel goes like this, "Hey 255, Hey 255, 255 Hey, You be sounding good up here in Central Arkansas Hey 255, Hey 255, 255 You soundin good. This is 858 in Central Arkansas saying you soundin good. 255 just got down! 858 Steppin aside, 858 Steppin aside, and I'm out" It gets old very quick.

I put up with it by just sticking to one of my local channels. It's weird in Alabama, ham and CB operators get along fairly well and a large majority of CB operators are also Hams and both use the band with care and treat each other with respect. We do have a few exceptions, as is true with anything, but they move on when they see that they're not going to get any attention from anyone.
