How do I replace the rubber keypad bc245xlt?

Hello all, thanks for reading my post.

I own a bc245xlt scanner and have had it since around 1999 and use it daily. The numbers on the rubber keypad have vanished from lots of use over the years.

I have a new keypad I ordered from Uniden. I opened the scanner and WAS going to try and replace the keypad myself. But after opening and trying to disassemble the scanner to get to the keypad I found it to be more difficult than I thought it was going to be. I got the back cover off ok, but could not get any further without getting the feeling I was going to break the main board.

Am I missing something (hidden screws or latches)? Is this something I may be able to do myself. I'm good at working on PC's and building from scratch and I do know how to solder, but I am by no means an expert at electronics.

I would appreciate any web links to any info on this topic (replacing rubber keypad on bc245xlt) or a suggestion as to where or how to get this done.
I was hoping to not send unit to Uniden.

I recently did just this...

You have to take the back off of the scanner (duh) and then, along the right side, near the top (looking at the scanner from the back), there is a small connecter with two wires for the speaker. You'll have to pop this out first. After that, go to the bottom edge of the top circuit board. Start to pry it up. The whole board along with the volume, squelch, and antenna ports will come up and toward the top. You can now access the keypad. I know this decription is vauge. I have printed out the instructions you have provided and will try it out in a day or to.

Just worried that I will destroy the scanner.

But then again it will give me the opportunity to buy a digital scanner. 8)

Many thanks to Matt, for the directions on replacing my keypad in bc245xlt.

It was not as bad as it first looked. Looking back on it, it was a breeze.
I wish I had done this last year.

Anyone wanting to do this should not hesitate. Keypad and a new battery cover made my scanner look brand new (had since '99 or there about).
