I was tuned to 141.450 which normally defaults to FM mode on my other whistlers but for whatever reason in all it's infinite genius that radios AU mode decided to set AM for every transmission and messed up my recording of the morning EOC Net. The WS1040 at least has the option to press one of the three top middle buttons to manually set the modulation, why does whistler :poop: the bed with this model?

You set it when programming it in, or can change it later in the MODE column of EZ Scan. This can also be done in the scanner by pulling it up under Browse Objects finding the Scanlist and then frequency and scrolling down to mode type.

That's one of the negative sides of TRX scanners, that it has a fixed bandplan you cannot change or alter. Whistler tried to help users by introducing a bandplan for each country that you can select but still no way of changing modulation type in tune or search modes if you want to use a nonstandard demodulation mode.

In Sweden milair in 250MHz-400MHz use FM mode but in US it is AM and perhaps some other Nato countries. As we now are members of Nato I wonder if they in exercises will be using AM, I suppose so, and the TRX scanner will then use the wrong modulation type. Only solution will be to search the milair band and program any found frequencies to conventional scan lists, if still wanting to use a TRX.

That is where you set the mode for TRX to use for the decode of the signal.
Fineeee I’ll do it that pain in the butt way 🙄

Yeah, it’s not just the TRX but a holdover from GRECOM sticking to the ways of the early 90s. My WS1040/the pro-106/psr500 was also like that almost, though the TRX definitely did make it worse a bit, I remember when it first came out there was no direct tune mode at all. Lack of WFM/FMB modulation like Uniden has also reminds me of the dated 90s handhelds.
