How do you handle iCALLS with your 396, 996

Okay, I have recently reprogrammed my systems and added iCalls wildcards and catching some neat side converastions.

However, I was wondering if there was any way to tell who is talking based on the iCall IDs, etc?

To make my problem worse I sometimes set up seperate systems for the same TRS system but sort them by TGID users rather than incorporating all the variuos user groups within on system seperated by GQK.

Such as having seperate systems for FIRE and POLICE for the same metro areas TRS. Problem is that when I have the iCALL wildcard in there I am often hearing the police or trash removal folks iCalls even though I only intent is to monitor the fire/rescue companies.

I do this above so I can enable QKeys for the services such as local police and local fire, etc. and have quick access to one or the other or both. However, I am thinking now I need 3 systems for the same TRS system, one with the police TGIDs' one with the FIRE TGIDS, and one with just a wildcard icall id.

Any suggestions on how others do it? I dont need to listen to the police or trash pick up when I only want to hear fire related stuff, but I think I have no choice - do I ? Or, is there at least a way to deciper who is talking is related to what user community based on the iCall TGID that is displayed?

THANKS,

Press the lockout button when you hear an I-Call that you don't want to hear anymore.

I-Call numbers are the radio ID's (take off the 7 at the start.)

I've often wondered how you set up an iCall wildcard on the 396. Could you share how you did it?

Set up your system, turn on icalls, then add 700000 to the TGID list.

That's what we're saying ;) Peruse the owner's manual again for the details.

I tried to put 700000 in my "mutual aid" group, turned I-calls on, and it said it was a bad TGID. Any ideas?

Don't put the number 700000 in. Simply enter ( . ) then ( E ) and it will store i700000 for Motorola systems or iooooo for Edac systems.

Okay

Yes, the manual states enter ( 0 ) but it is not necessary. It works just as I stated.

Sorry - I didn't intend to start an argument. I'll assume you're running a 396T, as that combination does not work on my 996T. Or maybe we have different firmware versions?

It works on all the 996's I've programmed. I didn't think the firmware had anything to do with it , but maybe it does. Are you running the newest v3.01.00 firmware?

thank you.

On a really busy system, I just have one dedicated to I-calls for that system/department/company. Ford is a constant busy user of I-calls, and quite entertaining as well.
Who dating who, complaints about management etc.
