How do you know if gps fx is working?

Hi all, how do you know if the GPS function is working? I see scanner master has a manual out on the 436/536, I am wondering if it will help?

Enter a zip code far away. Then pluv in your gps and see if it finds the freqs local to you. Make sure full database is on and location control.
