If you are at home, do you select TRUNK SCAN or TRUNK SEARCH? Also, do you monitor just one sub-system or do you monitor multiple systems? Does your focus change while monitoring mobile? I live in the middle of Dakota County, so I just focus on the Dakota County sub-system. I do alternate from time to time on whether I do TRUNK SCAN or TRUNK SEARCH. Lately I have been listening to the Dakota County sub-system in the TRUNK SEARCH mode. I just lock out the Metro Transit and Metro Mobility stuff. It is sort of interesting to see what other users pop up on the system from time to time.

When you are mobile, do you just listen to what is near you or do you try to hear as much as you possibly can? I have been using the Uniden Home Patrol HP-1 with the Garmin Nuvi 350 GPS and I usually just listen to whatever county I am located in. I guess I look at it this way, if I am driving in Saint Paul, I could really care less about hearing the barking dog call on the Washington County sub-system for Newport.

Which services do you monitor on ARMER? Do you listen to police, fire, EMS, public works, etc. or do you just focus on one or two? I generally start out listening to all services, but as I pointed out earlier, the Metro Mobility and Metro Transit usually get locked out right away.

Are you still trying to find any specific users on ARMER or are you satisfied that you have all of the talkgroups that you need? I am generally pretty satisfied, but it is still sort of interesting to hear a new talkgroup pop up and try to figure out who it is. I do sort of wonder if there aren't some more users that aren't on very often that we have not identified.

What are you thoughts?

I do a little of both. When mobile I have it more open. Usually have the counties I will be driving through open or I'll just open the entire metro to see which towers I can hear from different locations. I dont have it GPS controlled though and I dont want to try switching while driving. A home I change it around depending on what I'm in the mood for. Some times I'll have it all open, though in Hugo some of them dont come in well and I shut them off. Lately I have had it locked on the Wash co system and on ID Scan mode scanning WBL and the Northern Washington county talkgroups. I usually listen to everything except transit. With the exception of the last mentioned scenario I usually have it on ID Search because I like getting the oddball ones that are roaming.

At home I listen to the site that's closest to me, which also drives my feed. It runs in ID Search, but I have some neighboring county talkgroups locked out and State Patrol districts that we're not in also locked out. Also, per the RR feed provider ToS, the L-Tacs and local conventional law Tac is locked out of my feed radio.

When I'm mobile, I run almost exclusively on GPS in ID Search mode. I've got systems built for each ARMER RAC region and have all the sites set up with only a 15 mile or so radius so that I'm only hearing the sites that I'll get solid decode on (I did my best trying to draw "circles" around the simulcast site groups).

I'm going to start breaking the regions up that have lots of talkgroups and in areas that I'm also entering radio ID/UID info in for (since those entries also count against the 500 TG per system limit in my 396XT). I've hit the talkgroup limit in a few of the regions now...

Can I ask what about the ToS for live audio requires the L-TAC's to be not broadcast? There is nothing special about those talkgroups that is any different than the old MNSEF/VLAW31???

I think its because it is usually more than just sending officers to calls. its often searches that provide information about where the officers are that are looking for a suspect and could be dangerous for the officers. The odds of a suspect of listening to the feed to avoid the police is very small but I suppose the site has to cover their butts.

Wogggieee pretty much nailed it.

I know I'm going a bit beyond the RR ToS now that I'm re-reading them. It's ultimately my choice what I choose to air, and I personally feel more comfortable not airing the LTacs, in the event that they're used in a fugitive search or other sensitive operation. I've shut my feed down a few times now, during what I felt were sensitive events.

When our county migrates to ARMER, I'll do the same if they have equivalent talkgroups.

Actually, there is quite a bit different. MINSEF would only be used for an emergency type situation like a pursuit or other large law enforcement incident, and sometimes for helicopter landing zones.

The L-TACs and P-TACs are frequently used for undercover and surveillance type operations, definitely not the type of communications you want going out over a feed where the people that are the targets of those operations would have easy access to them.
