how fair can i reach from claxton ga with a pro 106

There are many factors that determine what you will be able to receive with any scanner.

Things like your location, elevation, antenna, etc; and the transmitter's frequency, location, elevation, output power, etc.

You might pick up a signal from 50+ miles away, yet be unable to pick up another signal from half that distance. GRE scanners tend to be fairly sensitive, so they can receive weaker signals fairly well (GRE makes the Pro-106).

Truly depends on what you are wanting to monitor. Trunked, conventional, air band, etc.. With an external antenna mobile and in the house, I can hear quite a lot on my 106. Luckily, I'm on the border for two really well built county P-25 systems. All I need is a short uhf antenna to monitor my county and the other two. VHF conventional tends to be higher powered than the truniked systems. I monitor counties more than 20 miles away on conventional.
