A Baofeng is a low grade transceiver. I recommend you purchase a “scanner”. Perhaps something like a Uniden BCT125AT, or a scanner suited for your location and what you want to monitor.
Well I just noticed the sub forum this is in, so I recommend you use Repeaterbook. In the USA we also have amateur coordinating groups that post repeaters on their respective websites. You can then use that to program those frequencies into your Baofeng, but just use whatever local coordinating body you may have in Canada. Even then, those repeaters may be offline permanently.
There is also 146.520 MHz for simplex. Still, your handheld radio may not receive simplex too often unless the other operator is nearby.
