I have a BCD436HP that performs satisfactory on P25 simulcast phase 2 system, and a BCD996P2 which performs good on phase 2. Those of you with the HP-2, How does it measure up? Are there any problems I should know about? Does it fail to decode some transmissions properly, or miss them altogether?

Works every bit as good as the other two radios you mention, and maybe better. Definitely better in terms of robotic voice than the 436.

I think it does p2 better on the system I monitor than any of the other radios. I have most of them.

I have both the bad 436HP and RadioShack 668 scanners. Both to me sound slightly robotic in phase 2, but what can you expect. Phase 2 voice transmissions are really compressed ( to full fill bandwidth, etc). Even on phase 2 professional radio the voice transmissions sound compressed.

As for sensitivity between the two I'm comparing for picking up P25 Phase 1 and 2 signals. Both do equally as well. Not out of the box though. I did adjust the ADC and DAC Gains as well as DSP levels on both scanners so it would be better to pickup signal as well as decoding the system voice properly. You really do have to play with them in my opinion to get better decoding/sensitivity to it.

The BCD436HP though overall does a better job with VHF sensitivity then others in its field. For 700/800 mhz P25 both decode equally good.

Hp2 decodes phase 1 and 2 very well with no robotic voice. In fact, although phase 2 is half the bandwidth of phase 2, the system I monitor, phase 2 sounds as good as phase 1. And no horsing around with tweaking... right out of the box.

Works great for me on my area P-25 P2 TDMA system. All of my transmissions are clear and very well decoded.

Straight out of the box too. If you pull the trigger, I highly doubt you will be disappointed. I love mine!
