Ok, we all know that the state police in PA have gradually and are continuing to move to the starnet unmonitorable system, but psp philly still is able to be monitored on vhf as you all know. ALso, it is already acknowledged that lots of times, depending on the trooper's location, a person listening to a scanner may not be able to hear both sides of the conversation, even if both freqs. are programmed, you may only hear norristown dispatch calling the patrol unit...These things we know, but here's my question.

WHat gives norristown cdc the capabilities to hear units from as far away as rt.309 and i-95...but yet scanner enthusiasts cannot? does it have to do with the base and mobile frequencies, or is the cdc kicking out higher levels of power to be able to reel in the trooper response?(155.910channel)....it seems that although distance plays a mega roll in monitoring psp philly as well as other vhf barracks, norristown can hear the responding trooper from wherever, some drop me some knowledge...LOL

Location
Harrisburg, PA
The answer is actually very simple. Tower sites located at high points in the areas of the various troops. The CDCs have microwave and landline links to the transmitters and receivers at those locations.
