How much profit does RS make on a scanner sale?

What kind of profit does a local Radio Shack make on a scanner sale. For instance the new Pro-2051 selling at $199.00. If I order it online I get free shipping to my door. If I order it delivered to the store and give my local RS a sale. How much do they make off a sale? Do they get a commission for making a sale or just a clear profit?

well if you can order it to your door at $199.00 and you can order it to the store for xxx.xx amount of dollars, take the diffrence and there is your profit. :roll:

I got mine thru a local store here. They did not have one in stock, so the manager got one transfered to his store from another store and shipped from the store to me at no extra cost. Same price as on-line

I don't know what the actual markup of a RS scanner is, but considering the distribution to all the stores and free shipping, they must have a pretty good markup.

I do know that the sales personal do get paid based on their sales. It's a base plus commission. They also get "spiffs" (a little bonus) when they sell certain items.

So add commissions and spiffs to the pot and the markup gets larger.

But in short, if you have a friend that works at your local RS and you want to help them, then order it through RS. If you could care less about the sales person, then order it online.

If they sell you a scanner, thats good, if they sell you top of the line digital, better, if you also get a PCS phone thats a "SPIFF", add a PC, and they get vacation time added! 8)

And on the profit margin-

Price from Manufacturer- Lets sayyy 100 bucks.... Add in the extras and you get retail of 199 bucks.... Come special rebate/manufacturer/marketers sales- 129-149 bucks.

Gross Margin?
Net Margin after alocated costs?
Net margin after sales costs?
Average per unit margin over the life cycle of the product?

Is this at Wholesale (Transfer) or retail?
Differentiated by channel/market, or agragated?

Hmmm, maybe I should have not taken that Manufacturing Accounting class?

If you build a demand, then the market will gladly force you to create the supply and thus increase your profit.
