It depends on where it left off, and it does take abit of time for instance to get from the first tone to the last one as it searches them in order. To see the search result you must make sure the screen mask is set to :OFF. Just so you can get an idea of how long this takes I tested this myself just now with my FRS it took 9 seconds for the scanner to go from the first CTCSS tone (67.0) and get to the 22nd (141.3) which I set the FRS at. 8)

I may end up getting a 796d for its ability to be hooked to a computer, but I sure ain't gonna use it to search for CTCSS or DCS. I just use my old Pro-92. :D

There are the tones, thats better

141.3 is about 3/4 of the way to the end. That means that it would take about 10 seconds for a full scan.

I have read where people gripe about the speed of detection but I never thought it would take that long. The average PS transmission is about 3 seconds. That would be hard to catch.

Does it at least start up where it left off?

Uhhh... tone 22 is a little over half way through the original 38 standard tones. That means it would likely take about 17 seconds to do a full scan. If it scans all 50 (revised standard) tones, it would take about 23 seconds for a full scan. The scan rate (based on DX-300's data) is about 2.25 tones per second.

I know the BC895XLT would resume where it left off.

OK for tone scanning use the 92, or 96..... weg.. both have nearly instant tone decode rates. The usual length of a PS transmission is as stated between 3 to 5 seconds...... with the 92's I have iether found the CTCSS tone, or found out that I need to switch to CDCSS in 3-5 secs....

What's with the Uniden taking so long to do that? Maybe that rate would be good on a LEA reading an extended criminal history/driving record back to an officer..... WEG

And its a good thing that currently there is no tone on AM Aviation, because most current conversations on civilian bands last about 1 and a half seconds .. those guys talk faster than anyone else I have ever heard!
