Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hello, guys,

I am a real beginner who just started to work at one of Motorola dealership company,
but all that I learned about programming is how to clone or edit the existing codeplug files using CPS,
because a technician who has worked here for over 30 years just quit 2 weeks ago without teaching me almost anything.

One of my existing customers wants a new frequency with 3 channels for a new group of workers
which is totally different from the conventional frequency they are using now.

What do I have to do first to assign a new frequency for the new user group?
Is it ok to assign another tone code for the new group, along with the rx and tx of the same repeater?
The conventional frequency they are already using is as follows ;
rx : xxx.xxx
tx : yyy.yyy
tone : 162.2
Model of radios : PM400

If anybody knows about these kind of issues or related website, please reply.
It'll help me very much, and I will help others as well when I'm grown up at radios in the future.

Thanks in advance !

Really thanks for your interest, Voyager,

I think they will use the same repeater that is used now.
Actually, they don't want the conventional group hear the new group's talking.
So, I thought it might be solved by assigning other tones at each three new channel than 162.2.,
still using the same tx and rx.
Is this a good or possible idea, or is there any other way? and,
when I put in new tones in new channels, can I use any tone other than 162.2?

Thanks again.

It should work, IF the Repeater tone panel has those new tones enabled.

Sure you can add new simplex freqs in a new group, just make sure they are licensed and narrow banded. I have seen it where a user with only a repeater pair wanted extra frequencies for simplex and not go and get licenses for new ones, not even for the itinerants. Well they did not like that option and I believe the found some guy with the RSS and paid him a few bucks to add them to their radios. They had no concern of being caught by the FCC.
