How to build an antenna

Hi everyone! I was wondering if someone could point me in the right direction, I am thinking about fabricating an antenna but I don't know where to start, I have been searching the internet for the last 2 days as well as this site but cannot seem to find any plans with details anywhere, I found lots of sites showing antennas but nothing with measurements or specs. so if someone could tell me of a good web site or direct me to an old post here I would greatly appreciate it! OH! by the way all I have at this time is a RS Pro-2044 (until I purchase the BC898T) but I would like to build one that would cover all bands in anticipation of future buys, if the wife removes the lock from my wallet :lol: Thanks!

I would start with a good book.

The ARRL publishes some of the best for the hobbiest.

Isn't it funny how our wives can put a lock on our wallets, but we can't seem to put one on their pocketbooks??
I've tried welding my wife's closed...didn't work!!

Ditto ... all I want is a good 2 meter transceiver.....I am almost to the point of begging.

If you see me with a card board sign on the side of the road that says... Will work for 2 meter radio.....the begging did not work lol

Try the local Ham club swap meet. (or ebay)

Yea there is a local ham fest here in summerville SC saturday.
I even took tommrow off from work to help set up some booths, meet a few peeps, brown nose LOL.

Now all I need is a crowbar for the wife.....

Yeah! Came back from the hamfest in Tulsa 4-5 years ago, and was telling my supervisor at work what I bought. Got a dualband radio for $350, antenna for $65, picked up a TNC for $100, etc. My boss looked at me and said "You never did get married, did you!"

I would try that, but, if I can't get a scanner I sure as hell ain't getting a welder! :lol:

I haven't heard of any hamfest's here in NW Indiana, but we sure have a lot of gun shows, maybe I can find something there to help out with the antenna thing.

I just bought a RS 2-meter/fm 19-1127 transceiver for $135 at a ham fest the day before the ham fest started (I took the day off from work to help set it up)
and my wife brought me the check to pay for it...

Now how many people have wifes like that?

Married 21 years now and still look both ways before I cross the road.

Lucky man :!: I've been married for 18 yrs. and you would have thought I asked for a girlfriend on the side when I told her I was buying another scanner, the old "what do you need another scanner for" "you can only listen to one at a time" "you spend more time with that stupid scanner than me :evil: so I very gently explained to her that the words comming out of the scanner, unlike hers, was more interesting, and when I get tired of hearing it I can shut it off, now I'm afraid to go to sleep tonight in fear for my genitals :shock: I sure hope she realizes I was joking :lol:
