That means you have no systems or data assigned to scan list 1. It can't enable anything if there is nothing there.

While doing it with software is easier, I recommend you do learn to program it manually. You will much better understand what the radio is doing.

Please read the manual

I need to know how to manually program

Since you seem to be asking for both general and specific instructions, the best answer is for you to read the manual(s) that were provided in the earlier posts.

After you read the manual(s), if you have difficulty with a specific step in the programming procedure, please ask here. But, right now, it seems that you would benefit most from, and become proficient with your scanner by, actually reading the manual.

If you do not understand a specific part of the manual, please explain which part and what your difficulty is with that part, and many here will be able to help you.

But you need to do your part as well by reading the manual. Many here are willing to help if you have specific questions about the manual.

Hope this helps,

I pressed 1 in scan screen to enable scan list 1 it says nothing enabled ...

As Mark mentioned in the above posts, this ("nothing enabled" while scanlist 1 is enabled) means you did not assign anything to scanlist 1, yet. So, you need to edit your existing object(s) and assign it/them to scanlist #1.

Hope this helps,

all my downloaded frequencies I look at them and it says they are in scan list 1

When you click the "SCAN" button, do you see a "1 . . . . . . . . . . " in the display (with the 1 blinking), or do you see just two rows of dots?

If you do not see the "1", press the "1" on the keypad to enable scanlist 1.
If you do see the "1", then there is something else wrong. If you used software to program the scanner, then you could post your file here, and someone could review it and help you get things resolved. Troubleshooting a manual-programming problem can take a while, so be patient with people who try to help.

Hope this helps,

Other people have had similar problems. You are welcome to search the Radio Shack forum for similar threads that might help you.

i have the asterisk by the number 1 does that mean it is enabled

As a starting point, it seems that you might want to carefully read and familiarize yourself with these sections of the manual, and follow the embedded links in the manual to other parts to read more if you find something you don't fully understand.

ETRM: A Look at the display
ETRM: CONV (Conventional) Channel Menu -- it mentions ScanLists and asterisks.
ETRM: Planning Systems and Scan Lists

After you read the manual, please ask any follow-up questions here. (I will not respond to any more sent by PM if related to this thread, as this conversation should be available to others who also need to learn programming, and questions here often get replies from more than one person which produces a better comprehensive understanding for the person(s) asking questions.)

Hope this helps,
