• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I have been in search of a Vertex VX-537 UHF for years. I saw it once on ebay and the guy wanted $750 for it.
Is there anywhere that sells these radios for a reasonable price?

If you don't mind me asking, how much did you pay and is it a worth while radio?
I live in NYC and I need something for RX only that can be used for my hikes and pictures, etc. I have an xts2500 but I need something more durable. I know they are standard issue for the nypd, so I am looking for one but not for $800

I paid basically nothing. I got it in a radio lot for 200 and sold all the other equipment for over 200. So it was free. It's a very solid radio. Very loud TX and RX. It's all metal the only problem is the paint can come off. As you may of seen the NYPD ones are missing a lot of paint. Knobs are tight and everything is tighten by hex keys so you can loosen or tighten to your pleasing. Battery last all day.

If anyone has a plug for one, I'd be willing to trade my XTS2500 uhf 450-520. Battery charger, antenna and speaker mic. For
An even trade and some programming.
If I'm violating any rules here, please feel free to lock or delete this post. I don't need P25 as I have a Whistler TRX-1 scanner. I just need a solid radio that does 450-512 for NYC.
I want it for its durability.

Someone else suggested that but I don't like the look. I know that's kinda dumb to say. But I really like the look of the 537.

I would probably kill you to know I used to have an SSE5000. T band is worthless here though. It was neat for a collector's item but couldn't justify it just sitting on a shelf.

The SES was a crazy idea. Imagine if that NYPD TRS scenario played out?
