    The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

    For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hello, all.
I'm on the RF bench again and it's been 10 years since I've had to functionally test radios. I'm hoping to get some feedback on the steps needed to functionally test a radio that comes across my bench that is trunked.

We have many MTX8250 handhelds that come in for PM checks. I have no problems getting these into test mode and testing the Tx/Rx side (anaolg).

What if I want to test the trunking side? I just had the Senior Tech blast through the process at the speed of light and he lost me.

I'm using a R-2670 FDMA Digital Communications Analyzer. My goal is to document what information I need to get and what settings I need to get into on my analyzer.

Can we get some people to chime in on where to start?

Get the operator manual for the Communications Service monitor. It will tell you how to setup the monitor to act like a trunked system fixed end. It will also give you the setups to test the power out, receiver sensitivity, frequency tolerance, and modulation level along with a few other tests. I would guess that your shop has a standard PM service form that identifies most of these measurements. Our form also includes the SN of the Monitor and the latest calibration date.
