If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

How to get rid of the codeplug password on a Motorola XPR 6550?

Hello! I just bought a VHF model Motorola XPR 6550 off of eBay recently, however upon trying to read it on CPS to get the frequency I monitor into it, I was greeted with a codeplug password prompt.
I do not know the password, and it originally didn't have a battery meaning that the seller didn't know of said password (This is my first Motorola radio, and had I known that codeplug passwords existed I would've checked for a model with a battery and was programmed first). I've seen that I could use recovery mode and put a new firmware and codeplug onto there, however these files are not available online and I don't have nor know how to access MOL. Does anybody know a way to do this and/or where to find the resources I need to do this?

At the Orlando Hamcation I bought 2 radios from a seller that were similarly locked. On the first radio, I already had a few, so I popped in the codeplug from one, & it became a clone of the others, & was fine. The second radio I had to use recovery because I had no saved codeplugs for that model radio. The recovery files were already in my CPS, & the recovery was successful. If you can’t do either, return the radio as useless junk since it’s locked, & you can’t program it.
