• Effective immediately we will be deleting, without notice, any negative threads or posts that deal with the use of encryption and streaming of scanner audio.

We've noticed a huge increase in rants and negative posts that revolve around agencies going to encryption due to the broadcasting of scanner audio on the internet. It's now worn out and continues to be the same recycled rants. These rants hijack the threads and derail the conversation. They no longer have a place anywhere on this forum other than in the designated threads in the Rants forum in the Tavern.

If you violate these guidelines your post will be deleted without notice and an infraction will be issued. We are not against discussion of this issue. You just need to do it in the right place. For example:

I typically type out messages in Windows Notepad. Then I copy and paste into a message and the tabs appear to be converted into spaces.

Any way to get the tabs to expand within the message?

If the converted-to spaces would correctly align your text, you can wrap the "CODE" tags around the text. I typed the below in Notepad with a tab between each word. Then cut/pasted here, highlighted, then clicked the # in the formatting bar to add the CODE tags.

Code:
This	is	a
test	to	see
if	tabs	will
work	with	the
CODE	tag.

Paul points out the correct way to "make" tabs work, but unless you are doing something that requires it (like showing CODE), there is no reason to ever use tabs in the forums. You may not use multiple spaces either. This is a forum, not a novel or textbook.
