The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

If the bank is open all ID's will be heard, only in closed will lockout function for Id's. Open displays a + under the bank number during SCAN while closed displays a -.

It would seem that you have locked out all the ID's that you want to listen to. You have to go and unlock them. If the bank is in open mode, you should hear all talkgroups, even if they have been locked out (I think!)

You need to scan only the talkgroups you want, unlocked, in closed mode. I don't have a PRO-95 so I can't say for sure.

No i only locked out the id's that i didn't want to hear. Let me add this... the bank that i am talking about has the state frequencies including trooper and such. However wildlife,DOTD and such also share these frequencies. So how can i scan this bank "without" having to listen to the ones i don't want?

Only program in the TG ID's that you wish to hear, and do not put the other ID's in. For the LA Statewide TRS all you have to do is put in the LSP/DPS TG's and leave out the DOT, DNR, ABC, etc....

Somewhere in this room. Right now, you're very col
It sounds like you haven't programmed any talkgroups into the scanner. In open mode, as others have said, all transmissions will come thru. In closed mode, only the talkgroups you specifically enter into the scanner will be heard. If you close the bank without first programming in the talkgroups you want, the scanner will just scan and scan....

Check in the manual and follow the steps for entering talkgroups into the scanner. Enter the ones you're interested in and then close the bank. It should then work the way you want it to.

Hope that helps!

Talk Group ID’s
These are Identification assigned by the manager of the system you desire to scan.

Storing unknown ID’s
1. When the scanner stops on a conversion, Press Trunk, the bottom line will indicate where the ID is saved as x-xx, where the first x is the sub-bank number in the bank and the xx is the the number of ID’s 00 to 19 in the sub-bank.
Note:
1. Each bank has five 20 ID positions for a total of 100 per bank.
2. If an ID was already stored, the bottom line will display ID was saved.
Storing Known ID’s
1. Select out all banks except desired bank ie. While scanning press each numbered bank to deselect it except your desired bank.
2. Press PGM.
3. Press Trunk.
4. Press down until bank 0-0 on appears at the top with Id no. 00 on the second line.
5. Press mode, if needed for MOT or ED.
6. Enter the ID number, if necessary use the period for a hyphen.
7. Press Enter.
8. Press up and repeat 6, 7 and 8 until all are entered.

I still can't get it!!!!!!!! I went to the manual and manually entered my talk group id's and THEN put the bank in closed mode. But it doesn't pick up ANYTHING. What in the world could i be doing wrong? I have the id's saved in bank 9 with all the other banks turned off. I hit program then trunk then function then the up key till i get to where it says.....Bank 9-0 OFF
ID No.00
MOT:06800
Then you hit the up arrow and it shows my next group id.
But why when i hit scan in this closed mode NOTHING comes up?

I will throw my 2 cents in and try to make it clear.

On the Pro-95:

In OPEN mode, you will hear everything. Doesn't matter if you have it entered as a TG or not. The only difference between entered and not entered is that the entered TG will display the Alpha Tag you assigned.

In CLOSED mode, you will only hear those TG's that you have entered and not locked out.

So, if you want to hear only those Troop Dispatch talkgroups, then enter them in the ID banks, make sure they are not locked out, make sure you have the ID bank on and start scanning. (Your text above indicates the bank is OFF.)

Hope this helps. :D

Ok i think i have it now. I used program Win95 and seen all my talk groups in the box in the bottom right hand corner. Possible problem was the "on" button was unchecked. So i checked all of them. Then hit "lock out" on the id's i didn't want. Made sure on top of page that this particular bank was in closed mode. Then uploaded to scanner. And now i am picking up my troops. So does this all sound correct now? Thanks alot all you guys!!!

Sounds like you have it.

Since you have Win95 see if this idea would be advantagous to you. Using the program, move (cut & paste) all the TG's you want to hear all the time to one (or two (whatever)) ID bank(s). Leave those ID Banks on. Move the ones you don't want to hear all the time, but might have an interest in sometimes to another bank(s), leaving that bank (or banks) in the OFF (not checked) mode. Unlock all TG's in all banks. Then reload the scanner.

Okay, when you are interested in those "not all the time" TG's, using the keypad, turn on the appropriate ID bank and you will be hearing them also. Of course, those TG's you will never be interested in, don't program at all. Make sure you leave the scanner in CLOSED mode on that frequency bank to avoid hearing everything. :D

That is correct, it sounds like you had the sub ID bank off (locked out). To manually lock in (turn on) a sub ID bank, press prog trunk got to the bank and sub ID bank and press Func 1, that will turn the sub ID bank on and off.
