I have a BCD996XT. ProScan, ARC XT Pro and FreeScan, mainly use ProScan. The regional system is GATRRS which operates Project 25 Phase I. On the local county group I would like to be able to monitor a specific talk group only when something is going on such as that agency in a vehicle chase, etc.

I understand that pressing the hold button will stop the 996XT on a specific talk group. However if I understand right each talk group operates on three frequencies plus the control channel 151.04000,154.37000,155.31750,156.18000. How can I monitor the three voice frequencies of a particular TG?

If I understand correctly pressing hold essentially stops the scanner on the specific frequency that was in use when the button was pressed.

Any ideas?

When you are scanning a trunked system, hitting the hold button will stop the scanner on a particular talkgroup. The scanner will give you the audio from the correct frequency automatically depending on the talkgroup and voice channel that is active with that talkgroup.

Scanning a trunked system is unlike conventional. When you scan a trunked system, you essentially monitor the trunked frequency for activity on the system. It automatically directs the scanner to the active talkgroup and voice channel frequency.

In other words, as ny5pj mentioned, the scanner will hold on the talkgroup, and the scanner with the control channel will automatically follow the talkgroup to whatever frequency it goes to. You don't have to (and couldn't) manually follow the frequencies.

Thanks guys that's what I needed to know. I'm an old school scanner fan who just broke into the trunked digital world and that's one of the finer points I missed. Thanks for your help!

And if you hold on the "wrong channel", just punch in the TG and hit the HOLD button again and it will take you right to that TG. No need to search for it. Even the text tag will be displayed if you set one.

Good idea, tried and it does work if you know the TG# as well.

I sometimes will while looking to do so the same for a Talkgroup or frequency, push HOLD then using the silver knob, rotate left or right and can find it that way too.

Yep: multiple ways to get to the same destination. You can also use the Channel Number Tags to get there.
