How to program CTCSS on BC898T

BC898T manual explains CTCSS/DCS and how it works. It does not however give instructions on how to program it. I know how to program frequencies into channels. But how do you actually program the frequencies with their accompanying PL tones?

Programming a Channel With a CTCSS/DCS Tone
1. Press MANUAL.
2. Press CTCSS/DCS.
3. Select the channel you want to program then press E. If you have already programmed
a CTCSS or DCS tone, the frequency for the tone blinks. Otherwise, 000.0 HZ blinks.
4. Enter a CTCSS tone.
a. Use the keypad, rotary tuner, or HOLD �� or LIMIT �� to select the tone.
b. Then press E.
Notes:
• If you make a mistake while entering a tone with the keypad, press . on the keypad
twice and enter the tone again.
• Make sure FREQ is lit before turning the rotary tuner to select a frequency.
5. To cancel CTCSS mode, press CTCSS/DCS or MANUAL. The CTCSS indicator and
displayed tones are turned off but not deleted.

Page 36... Hold the CTCSS/DCS til it beeps twice. Turn the VFO knob til you get to the tone you want and then hit Enter. If you dont know the tone hold the CTCSS/DCS til it beeps twice while scanning a set of freq and it will search for one when the channel is active.

So do I just program the tone in the channel and not the frequency?

You need to program the frequency FIRST and then the tone

Thank you. I am putting in Oakland NJ Fire. I enter 151.0775 but when I hit enter it turns to 151.0800. Is that ok?
