• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Here we go . . .
What band ? What do you want to program ? Do you have a license to be on said frequencies ?
eBay is absolutely flooded with 800MHZ MTS2000 radios going for next to nothing. Having one that’s actually in a useful band ( VHF and especially UHF ) are becoming much more rare now.
If you happened to pick up an 800MHZ one for $12.50 shipped, just toss it in the bin and move on as those are essentially useless in 2022.

So, can we ask WHY you bought a radio that you know nothing about?
What are your expectations? What is your long term plan with a radio on an unknown band?

Just trying to figure out how people can best help you. Not a lot you can do with a 30 year old radio on an unknown band sold by someone who doesn't know what they have.

Please post the model number of the radio. With that information, someone here will be able to tell you the band and possibly other features.

Or you can find a model number chart on the net and determine this info for yourself.

Try batlabs first.

Yeah, not much you can do with that.
There are no amateur radio frequencies this radio will cover.
There are no itinerant or "free" channels it can be used on. Everything is public safety or business.

Those are 30 year old radios. When I retired my old trunked system, I e-wasted about 400 of them. Even back in 2011, they were going for about $20 on e-Bay and most of them were beat within an inch of their life. It wasn't worth the effort to do anything other than wipe their memory and toss them in a bin. I think I wiped a few, disabled them and gave them to my nephew to play with as toys.

They are analog only, and with most users running digital now, not much you can do with it. Depending on your exact location, there may be some analog stuff you could listen to, but probably not worth the effort.

Finding the CPS and cable isn't difficult, but these are not easy radios to program.

Display piece is about all it's good for.

If you don't know what a band is, I have to wonder, why do you even want a radio? It's like saying you don't know what a road is, but you want to buy a car.

Frequency band. The range of frequencies in which a radio operates. There are many, but for our purposes, the four that are of most interest are VHF, UHF, 700/800 MHz, and 900 MHz.

For what purpose do you want a radio?

I know what a band is. If you were referring to when I said ( Sadly, I do not know what band it is. I messaged the seller about it, and they don't know either. ) then you might have read it wrong.

Agreed, I currently have an MTS and pager in my collection. I'm working on getting a XTS5000.

I began my “collection” with a “Minitor” (the ORIGINAL) at he age of about15.

Then GP300 (my first NEW) then HT1000…

I’ve collected so many throughout the decades. Sabers, Astro Sabers, HT/MT, Visars, APCOR.

Most are vintage (of my era)

Now I love this stuff;

nearing retirement, my last cool purchase is a APX6000

Here’s just some of my Astro Saber / Saber collection. I also have a bunch of GP300’s, SP50’s, MTS2000’, XTS3/5000’s etc etc.

Been into Motorola radios since the old Batlabs days before they went to the “new” message boards in 2001.
Nice! Drool-worthy collection right there 👍

I used to have a nice collection of portable radios, over 50 of them, dating from the HT200 up to XTS5000s.

I sold the collection off several years ago and don't really regret it, EXCEPT that I should NOT have sold my 48 channel MX300S,
which was fully working and was a tweaked and tuned radio with all hand selected, best of the best performing modules. RF preamp,
VCO that would lock over a 24 MHz frequency range, custom retuned preselector, everything.
