I am new to digital scanners and have the BC296D scanner. I have used the software that shipped with it to load the frequencies and talk group using data taken from http://www.bearcat1.com/fleetin.htm

I downloaded the ASCII file and it loaded without error but I am only hearing one side of the conversation or at the very least bits and pieces.

The site says the system is: G.E. Ericsson

What trunk type settings should I be using on the 296D? I have tried most types with no luck.

Thanks,

Doug

I figured it out. Howard County uses the G.E. Ericsson system that is an EDCS system. (Correct me if I am wrong!).

you are correct they use a edacs system. just make sure you put the channels in lcn order and start on channel 01 in a bank and not 000. also if you travel around you can put hamilton county in also they are edacs. this site has all the talk groups you need.

Thanks for the response. I am a bit confused as with the LCN's that I have for Howard County have what appears to be 2 #5's. See below

866.1750 (1) 866.3375 (2) 867.1250 (3) 867.3250 (4)
867.6000 (5)
867.8500 (6) 868.1250 (7) 868.2875 (8) 863.8625 (5)

Why would there be two (5) LCNs?

Also, is it edacs wide or edacs narrow?

thanks,

Doug

From the database:

Code:
01 866.17500* 02 866.33750 03 867.12500 04 867.32500

05 867.60000 06 867.85000 07 868.12500

08 868.28750 09 866.20000 10 868.21250*

If the LCN primary control channel constantly outputs a blaring squacking sound can I lock out that channel and still get all conversations in the trunk group?

No, then the scanner would ignore it. You shouldn't be hearing the data noise when scanning the system. If you are, you don't have the bank or channels set up as ED.

Hi Barry and welcome to the forum! I also live in Howard County and have programmed most of the frequencies you ask for into my 296D. I would first recommend that you purchase Butel's ARC250-BASIC software. You can purchase it from http://www.butel.nl/ and select 'Buy Now' icon on the top of the page. This software allows you to easily program your scanner. Without software the scanner is very complicated to program.

You can also use the software link below to download a backup / restore utility. This would allow you to restore a backup of my scanner thus giving you 99.9% of what you are asking for. Keeping in mind that I will not support the backup and you will need to rely on the forum members here and the Uniden scanner manual should questions come up.

http://www.butel.nl/bc785/back250.zip

I am travelling this week and do not have my scanner with me. I will be able to make a backup this weekend and email it to you if you would like.

If you are interested, let me know and give me your email address.

If you would rather program the scanner yourself you can use the Radio Reference database - http://www.radioreference.com/modules.php?name=RR and this will also give you what you are looking for but with a little more work.

You can download them using the ARC250 software but it is not a perfect process. You can also use the backup software that I mentioned above to restore the backup from my scanner. I will send you the backup file this weekend.

In the mean time, spend some time with your scanner's user's manual. I know its a hard read but it will explain the features of the scanner and how to use them. I have had my scanner for three months or so and I still refer to the manual quite often.

Man this don't make sense, I can't download, copy and paste from the web site, or anything.... I printed the entire ARC 250 manual, still can't do anything........ Very frustrating........
