Howdy, I am a paramedic in both nc and sc. Sc uses all800 trunking. Nc uses 800 and vhf.
Well be s mobile mount system in my truck. Father in law used the 996p2. However it's not in my budget. What would work. I

Will also scan 700, and uhf.

If you don't need P25 Phase 2, then a 996XT would likely work for you. It depends on which counties and areas you're going to listen to.

The Palmetto 800 P25 system is Phase 1, but with some encryption. Charl-Meck and surrounding areas are also Phase 1.

Work in spartanburg sc as a medic and transylvania nc as a medic. Sc using 800 trunking for all. Nc dispatches on vhf and er report on 800. Will also listen to local nc and sc fire on both vhf, 800, and 700. Phase 2 has not be implemented yet and don't know when or if it will.

BCD996XT or BCD996P2 (for a bit of future proofing.) Either can be purchased used on eBay if your budget is limited. The BCD996P2 is the current model that replaced the BCD996XT, and costs ~$380 new. Sometimes you can find it as an "open box" item at HRO, and save yourself 10-15%.
