After testing two HP-1 scanners side by side one has a very noticably longer beep after the transmission and the other virtually none. I discovered the one with the beeps had batteries installed and the other one I had removed the batteries and was using A/C adapter only. I put the batteries back in and the beeps came back. I removed batteries from both scanners and beeps went away. What could that have to do with it I have no idea, just an observation.

That is kind of strange...why it would beep at the end of transmission on with batteries installed but not without is weird...I'll see if I can do some reasearch for you.

Just Added Info.

I didn't see this thread until today and to tell you the truth I don't normally listen to any EDACS; however, the other day I did set up one to check on something and was getting the end of transmission beeps but attributed to the weakness of the signal (the system is pretty far away). I do normally have batteries installed in the scanner and normally have it plugged in also.

To be honest guys, I'm a veteran with Google and I haven't found a dang thing. Spooney, you got a doozie. :)

It probably has to do with the receiver and the amount of power it receives. It may go to a "low power" state while on batteries to make the batteries last longer, thus weakening the strength of signal it receives, and that could be why you are hearing the EDACS beeps. When plugged in, it could go to "full power" and everything is at maximum performance.

It might have to do with the delay after the transmission stops. Have you been tweaking your settings recently?

If you listen to an edacs voice channel in conventional mode, each transmission will end with three beeps, I think they're around 7000hz.

A weak signal is an issue with hearing the beep, but in my case I use an outdoor antenna 60ft up on a tower and get all bars on my meter. All I can say is if I take the batteries out, no beep. Even if I have A/C adapter plugged in with batteries installed I hear the beep. It only disappears when I remove the batteries.

If the system is a strong signal, try attenuating it.
I have a local system that is so strong that all my radios receive it with no antenna attached.
It had a squelch tail on the HP1 that was driving me nuts, especially if I was holding on the frequency.
I set the Atten on that channel, squelch tail gone.
Might be worth trying for your EDACS beeps, if you can still receive with the Atten set.
