HP 1 Batteries

I think my HP 1 batteries have come to the end of their life . They were the original ones that came with the unit . I am going to use normal alkaline AA's until I can find out about what new ones to use. Can I use any NiMH rechargable's such as Energizer or Duracell ? Can they be charged in the HP 1 like the factory issued one were ? Any help is appreciated.

I use Radio Shack rechargables in mine, and they work fine. I do, however, have a seperate battery charger that I use most of the time. I have charged them in the HP-1 without problem. Any brand should work, I would think.

I would be hesitant to put alkaline batteries in, just on the off chance that that "begin charging" was inadvertently chosen while turning on your scanner. That could turn out pretty ugly..
