Hello,

Have managed to get my "old" Home Patrol HP-1 working gain.
A really nice unit, and am enjoying using it a lot.

Have these two questions, please. That old-age thing, again, probably.
Have read Mark's writeup, and the old Manual for the unit, but still don't have a very
clear understanding of.

a. Re Service Types:
Realized I was probably missing a lot, as I often neglected to select any, or an incorrect Service type.

I am not, particular, and would like to hear everything and anything i can pick up.

Is there a "Global" setting to use, like "OTHER" for all the FL's i created.
Or, does each FL have to be told to use OTHER ?

*Is OTHER the best approach to be sure nothing is being missed, or should i make
a determined effort to select actual Service type(s) for each FL ? Why ?

What's the best approach for this, please?

b. This is really driving me batty to fully understand too.
Regarding the "Set Your Location": (again, wish to maximize for everything)

I have location services OFF now for each FL.
Have never used it.

*I want the Max. Range, always, for each FL.

Might someone please outline for me (exactly) what I want to do ?

e.g., Do I want to set Use location for each FL ? If so, from Sentinel, or set from the unit ?
Is there a Global setting, or must it be done individually for each FL ?

What other steps and settings to maximize the range for each FL ?

Much thanks,
appreciate all the help I've received in getting going again with this.

Bob

If you're not picky about what you listen to, there's no point making favorite lists. Just scan the database and make sure your location is set as accurately as possible.

Hi,

Thanks.
Good suggestion.

Not too sharp with this, so please bear with me a bit.

How do I then handle the Service Types setting for this overall scanning of the full db ?

Same, for Location Control, etc. ? Exactly how do I want to set up all the options for this, for the fulldb scan ?

Thanks, and regards,
Bob

The basics are that the ZIP Code is the centerpoint of an imaginary map. The Range is how big a circle gets drawn around that center point. Every item in the database also has a Center Point and Range assigned, so there are all these circles on that imaginary map.

Each channel in the database also has a Service Type assigned that defines the intended use of that channel.

If your circle touches or crosses any of the circles in the active database and the service types you select is assigned to a channel then it will be scanned.

Bob, you seem to be asking very similar questions as to what you asked with your SDS200. The concept with Sentinal, FL's and such is almost the same. Granted the features in the SDS are more advanced, but the HP1 should be a super easy if you think of it in terms of your SDS.

They are the same, except the SDS models have some additional channel and scanner setting options.

Does the software for the HP1 still work and get frequency database updates?

It uses the same Sentinel as the HP2, and still gets weekly database updates.

Hi,
Glad I got it going again.
Seems to work fine, like it did in the "past".
All the same, apparently.

Thank you. I have mine out of my old box of stuff from Garden Grove. Didn't get lost or dinged up thankfully.

Good memories huh I didn't appreciate it as much back then cuz it didn't have all the fancy full manual controls and settings and direct programming+direct "tune" button and customizeability or the signal stalker (or close call for uniden) like my Pro-106 I ended up with later. But it still had good times with it listening to the orange county trunk system and seal beach military base and various other commercial stuff in the area during high school. I took it everywhere with me, was fun at the mall and beach. I should use it again just for the nostalgia since the database for it still works apparently. I remember being concerned it would stop being supported after a couple years like old androids since it wasn't possible to manually do things.

You can do a lot through Sentinel; most of the limitations are in the user interface in the scanner.

Well that's good. I have the software set up and running now and have just been going through to learn all of it. Was listening to the local utility company on P25 earlier. Sounds good.
