“Without thinking?” It takes a concerted effort to use Windex mixed with vinegar on a touch screen. Who does that? But I feel your pain. In any event, the surface of the touch screen should not be affected adversely, meaning blurring or fogging. You don’t mention if this has happened. But I would discontinue this cleaning method. As for the touch screen loosing it’s sensitivity to touch, if the combination of both can cause some sort of electrolysis, I am not aware. You may have used too much of the liquid and it has found it’s way to the other side of the display and shorted out some contacts... in which case all power should be removed and the scanner allowed to dry out for a week. If you know your way around electronics you could open it up and inspect for moisture, etc.

The screen is not blurry, This is the first time that I use the pre-mixed windex, like I said, I know better, but my mind was elsewhere. I usually just use a soft cloth to clean it. I will disconnect power to the unit and try that. I have never opened up a HP, So I will not try that as I may cause more damage. Thank You

Try to clean it with water and isopropyl. Internet says:

NEVER spray the glass cleaner directly onto the display. ... Never use ammonia-based glass cleaners, such as Windex, on your touch screen. The ammonia will destroy the screen membrane and cause permanent discoloration. In more severe cases, it will result in touch screens not working appropriately.

To clean your screen, use a screen cleaning wipe or a soft, dry, lint-free cloth. When necessary, you can dampen the cloth with one of the following: water, isopropyl alcohol (IPA) solution 70% or less, or eyeglass cleaner. Never use glass cleaner or other chemical cleaners. Keep it out of the sun.

Do you remember if there was an excessive amount of liquid that could have seeped into the radio? That scenario would have me guessing the insides got wet. But no matter. If after a week it still does not work it can be fixed by Uniden... or better yet, upgrade to the HP-2? I also have the HP-1. I mounted the radio and an amplified speaker and powered both using 12 volt DC cords. It worked great with a rubber duckie antenna attached to an angle adapter.

Sure it can... either repair or replace the display. Uniden charges a flat rate of about $90, regardless of what they find, provided it can be repaired. However, you might ask if they have refurbished units you could turn your scanner in against.

On my hp 1 i used to much water (twice) and the water seeped in and got between touch panel and the lcd, the 1st time i successly seperated the touch panel and lcd and dried it out and it worked althoug the 2nd time i did not successfully seperate it and it cracked the lcd and made a trip to uniden. But i could see the water between the panel and lcd and did not recognize touch but still scanned ans screen still displayed. Hp 1s are definately not waterproof.
