I wonder how much it costs to have a new scanner FCC tested and certified?

Somewhere in this room. Right now, you're very col
FCC: AMW UB363.
Same RF as HP-1.

That makes sense. A new CPU was needed to decode Phase II, but no changes were needed to the radio related innards themselves, hence no need to FCC test.

(That's probably also how Paul was able to sneak this one out the door without anyone here finding out about it first and raising a big fat stink about the x36's sooner).

I've always liked the idea behind the original HomePatrol, but since it didn't handle the RWC much better than it's fellow x96 brethren and it could never do Phase II, I gave it a pass. If the new version does better here in Phoenix however, then I might see if Santa thinks I've been good enough this year to get one. ;)

I'm also curious how it will do in Tucson for the PCWIN system - if it does well there, my future in-laws might want one too. My 436 is too complex for them to operate, but they like listening to TPD and TFD on it when I come over to visit, so a HP2 would be perfect for them IF it works well on that system.

I've had a BC245XLT for many years but our local municipal radio system is changing to digital phase I and then to phase II. Can't make my mind up between the new HP-2 or BCD436HP. Which is the better choice if I have to manually enter the frequencies (before they are uploaded to RR)?

Either one will work for you - you can do that on your computer in Sentinel for both radios. If you prefer one with a physical keypad so you can do that work "on the fly", the 436 is up your alley.

For me the choice should be simple. Do you want a portable scanner to carry around (if so, get the 436) or something for the desktop (if so, get the HP).

For a newly released radio yes definately.
Good luck with the new Home Patrol, let us know how you like it and how it does phase two also.

I got my HP2 on Monday, 11/10/14. Bought it from Jeff at The Ham Station. I've only been playing around a couple days, but, I like it. Does well on the NJ NJICS system and Berks County's new Phase 2 system. I have the P25 mode set to Auto and get pretty low error rates. I think it's just as good as my 436HP on all digital including single channel.

It's pretty good on analog VHF and UHF too. Bought the Extreme Upgrade too. Can't wait to see what I can do with that.

As usual, YMMV...

Hi Sibbley,
what simulcast site are you hitting the NJICS system from and are you using an outside antenna with the HP2?

Ditto on that. HAM Station has great service. Waiting to have the first drop shipment of the Whistler WS-1095 shipped to my house when the radios get released. Waiting patiently.
