Hp1 and Belmont county

Hello all ,

I know this has been brought up before but I wanna go into more detail of what is happening.
Last night while programming a friends HP 1 for Belmont County I noticed I can not seem to switch the audio type for the channels via Sentinel software, so I downloaded Arc patrol and I can change the audio type but still not receiving any audio from Belmont County. Any help would be appreciated. This isn't my first rodeo with this scanner so I'm not sure what the problem is.
I updated the firmware and the data base also double checked to make sure the control channels where correct.

All law enforcement groups in Belmont County are encrypted. All you can receive is fire/EMS and the like.

Audio type can be changed in Sentinel via the favorites list editor.

I thought if they are listed as E in RR that Sentinel did not download them. I know there was talk about changing that.
EDIT: Just checked, looks like the Enc TG's are in Sentinel.

Agree one can change in Sentinel, though that is not the OP's real problem.

EDIT - are you talking about the p25 system? As to changing audio, they would all be digital anyway.

This is a simulcast system also, with all the simulcast issues.

Are you programing the Belmont County (Project 25) are something else?

Do you have all the correct service types on?

What are you trying to receive?

Are you using a favorite list or the entire DB?



If a favorite - export as an HPE, rename to whatver.txt and attach it here and we'll look at it.

In Sentinel (file , export to hep, select the fav.)

You can't change the audio type in a P25 system it is all digital, that is the only audio type available.

Looks OK - do you have fire-tac, and multi-tac service types on as well as fire dispatch?

They will not be ON by default.

Also check in profile if location is on for this list - if so turn off.
(edit-profile-favorite lists)

If that does not work - try it outside, or some other locations.

Yes - but it would have to lock on, then read the HP back into Sentinel. I think it shows in there after this.

It will not show in Sentinel by default as not needed. (MARCS does - it's a rebanded system)

OK im starting to think something is not right in the download from RR or this scanner is not liking the simulcast system

Im not the only one having issues monitoring this system with the HP 1

I have erased the sd card and started from fresh. and still nothing. it doesn't make sence.

I really appreciate your help, I have never had this problem in the many years I have been in the scanning hobby.

Make sure no Sites are avoided.

Make sure not Departments (or Sites) are using a disabled Quick Key.

I looked at the HPE file and it looks OK. Of course I can't tell about service types.

HP1 - so not applicable.

I have no 1st hand experience with simulcast. But one thing I've noticed (and my area has been on IP since the 1st month or so). It seems to be either lower power or lower effective power.

With MARCS I could receive 8 or 9 sites. (out to maybe 30-35 miles) With IP, on the same towers I can receive 2 and sometimes 3. That's with a discone at 35 feet. Tried it and ST2 - same. 2 of the sites I can receive with an attached antenna.

It's very, very location sensitive with an attached antenna. I've moved a radio as few as 2 inches and lose it. I will see it lock on but no decode. I've seen this on 3 HP's and a 325P2. Even a 996 has issues if using an attached antenna and move a little.

No idea if IP is now in it's final stage, will still have some tweaking or not.


All that - add simulcast, the extreme hilly terrain in the OP's area and who knows what is ongoing.

well ,

took the scanner with me to work and it works just fine. I think due to the wifi that runs rampant in my house ( ( 3 kids and 2 adults ) with cell phones , computers all on wifi was interfering with the reception not to mention I live on top of a big hill on state route 250 where I get alot of noise up here from a nearby AM antenna. anyway I really thank you all for the help , this is why I love these forums. learned alot during this process about simulcast and its issues. Again thank you very much!
