My scanner has always worked well picking up local police and Sheriff dispatch. I had it off for a few months and updated it with sentinel software. The desired entity pops up but nothing happens...then it goes off.

Will the HP1 support EICAWIN 700 MHz P25 digital system? If so how do I set up and if not, how can I upgrade?

Yes, it can, but there are some encrypted channels on that system. No scanner can receive the encrypted channels.

My unit...suggestions?

I have deleted user info, updated Sential software, updated database and wrote to my HP 1. I set my unit up with zip and city. When the unit displays the desired EICAWIN 700 MHz P25 site, it holds there for a second or two and then goes away. I have an outside AntennaCraft ST2 antenna with coax and get full 4 bar signal. I look at the database, and it seems to show there, but no reception. I read a blog with this data.

BLOG Q: My wife's' Home Patrol-1 is programmed to receive County Sheriff Dept. transmissions which are on a conventional VHF system, and City Police, Fire, and EMS transmissions that are the a P25 X2-TDMA system. Everything has worked fine since I got this scanner for my wife for Christmas. Recently, however, after the scanner has been on for a while, it stops receiving the the City Public Safety transmissions but continues to receive the Sheriff Dept. transmissions. I have noticed that it appears to sometimes stop on a transmission and displays the Department and channel name as it normally would, but there is no audio whatsoever. Being a police officer in my city, I have even "keyed up" my portable radio to see if it will receive it, and it does not. At various times to fix this, I have hooked the HP-1 to my computer and Sentinel software and have it write to Home Patrol; updated the Master HPDB; ran the firmware update (was already up to date), and have also removed all power and the batteries after an SD card read error. In each instance, this has temporarily fixed the transmission problem and all is well. But, the same problem arises after a few hours and I quit receiving anything but transmissions from the conventional system. I'm wondering if this is a hardware problem I need to address with Uniden since it is still under warranty, but I keep suspecting a database or programming issue. Thanks for any advice.

BLOG ANSWER: I sent mine in to Uniden thinking there must be a hardware problem. I somehow was missing a control channel. I think they indicated there were some changes made to the system or something, and that is why I was lacking a control channel. I'm not very tech savvy on this subject, but someone else on here probably understands what my issue was and might be able to explain it better. In any case, it works perfectly now and I have had no further issues. Good luck.

Everything on this page that has an "E" under the Mode column is encrypted:

Eastern Idaho Cooperative Agencies Wireless Interoperable Network (EICAWIN) Trunking System, Multiple Locations, Idaho - Scanner Frequencies

I'm not personally familiar with Bonneville county, but it looks like all law enforcement in that county is dispatched on the first talk group in the list (10001), which is encrypted. At least that is what the RR database is currently showing. It may no be accurate. You say the problem is with your city Public Safety channel, but I don't see a dispatch channel in the list that matches that description. Again, the database may be inaccurate, or I may be missing something. In any case, if your talk group is in fact encrypted now you will not be able to receive it with a scanner as Paul stated. Is it possible that encryption was enabled during the several months you were not using the scanner? If encryption is not the cause, it is very possible that other things were changed with the P25 system that are causing the problem. I think it's less likely to be a problem that has developed with your scanner while it was not being used.
