I have a Home Patrol 2.

My local Sheriff Department ( Henry County Ohio ) is currently using the Ohio Marcs IP primary control frequency of 773.30625 and the alternate control frequency of 771.28125. The Talkgroup ID is 54806.

But the Radio Reference Database still has them listed as using the old Analog frequency of 155.625.

Radio Reference also has them listed in the Northwest Ohio Regional Public Safety System ( future use ) with the Talkghroup ID of 10488, but that is not operational yet.

My problem is this. Since the Homepatrol 2 works off of the Radio Reference Database I am not able to program the current Ohio Marcs IP Frequency and Talkgroup that the Henry County Sheriff Department is currently using into my Home Patrol 2.

I called Uniden Customer Service and spoke to Andy, he advised I needed to purchase the Extreme Upgrade Key for $50.00 and that would solve my problem. I did so but was unable to use it to program the freq. and talkgroup ID. I called Andy back and advised him of same, he emailed me instructions on how to do so but they were for ANALOG, not DIGITAL. I called him back and he advised he would have to research it and get back to me via email. I haven't heard back from him.

I called back several days later and spoke to Forrest who advised he would check into it and email me how to do so, I haven't heard back from him.

I called back several days later and spoke to Mary who advised she would check into it and email me how to do so, I haven't heard back from her.

I called TODAY and spoke to Caleb who advised this has been referred to Corporate, they are reviewing and will email me how to do it. I asked him when can I expect this and he advised he could not tell me. I asked for a phone number for whoever is reviewing this and he advised they don't take calls.

So my question is this. Is there ANYBODY HERE who knows, and can advise me, how to MANUALLY program a known digital frequency and talkgroup into a Uniden Home Patrol 2 equipped with an Extreme Upgrade Key?

I would be very grateful for any help I could get.

Scan Marcs, which is already in the database. Trunked system sites are not exclusive to any user, that site will be used by every marcs user in the area, not just the sheriff.

The main thing that the Extreme Upgrade adds, in regards to programming, is the ability to create, and/or edit your Favorites lists from the scanner's keyboard. That's handy if you need to add or correct something when you don't have immediate access to your PC and Sentinel. There are some analyze features as well, that I have used in the past.

If you are scanning a Favorites list, you always have the option of creating or editing the list, and it's systems, sites, and departments, in Sentinel, then writing that to the scanner. Neither the Extreme nor Sentinel will allow you to edit, modify, or add to any system if you are only using location and the main database, without creating a Favorites list.

As Jon noted, Ohio's MARCS is in the main database already. The specific frequencies you mentioned are assigned to the Holgate site in MARCS. If you already have that site in MARCS on your HP-2, then all you need to do is create a Department for your county (Henry) and add the talkgroup to it, I would suggest that you get that submitted to the database so that it can be added. If the sudmission is processed in time (before Sunday 10/27), then it ould be included in the next database update for the HP-2, which should be available by mid-Day this coming Monday.

If you do not have MARCS, and/or the Holgate site, in your Favorites list, they can be added manually in the scanner, or in Sentinel.

Instructions on adding information to a Favorites list, in Sentinel, can be found here.

Notes for editing a Favorites list on the scanner, with the Extreme Upgrade, are also shown in the Easier to Read Manual.

Just to double up on what Steve said.

It sounds like you don't use favorite lists so Extreme would not help in the first place. You can only edit a fav. list with Extreme, you cannot edit the full database.

Submit the talkgroup , once it's in the DB give it a week and it will be in Sentinel.

Or learn to create a fav. list.

If there's some reason that you cannot edit a favorite list in Sentinel and struggle to edit directly in the scanner, then drop this new Ohio file with the sheriffs TG added in the folder for the HPDB in your computer, it will say it will overwrite the old Ohio file if you are at the correct place,

You probably have to put the Ohio file directly into the HP2 as you otherwise probably have to do "reconstruct database" to transfer the DB to the scanner. Connect a USB cable and select masstorage and store the file at:
\HomePatrol\HPDB\

hiegtx, if you have the Sentinel loaded on your laptop you can manually enter it on the program and then download it to your unit or your card. I see that Ohio gets a tad quirkey so it really would be easier to update your Sentinel that way instead of manually entering it directly on your HP.Your updates you paid for , if i can remember, was to allow you to YES manually enter your frequencies and a few little add-ons, but it really is easier to update your Sentinel and do it that way. Otherwise the time you spent manually entering in freqs and TGID's will take some time where if you set up your sites, systems, and dept. on the Sentinel will be done correctly and faster. There really ins't a need to reconstruct anything in your database since once you update if really starts from scratch on what you can monitor. Hopefully I won't get in trouble for telling you this info but tvengr and phask are totally correct with their replies versus the other "person"

The "updates" I meant was the "upgrades" that allow you for direct channel access and a few others....I have that on my HP-2's that I have and it helps. As for simulcast, mine works okay considering the location I am at, so an SDS really isn't warranted if you were thinking about buying one. Depends on location to the sites you are listening to

I am aware that the editing can be done in Sentinel, and then written to the scanner. In fact, I provided a link to the section of the easier to read manual that addressed that. You may have looked at a different post other than mine.

Instructions on adding information to a Favorites list, in Sentinel, can be found here.

Notes for editing a Favorites list on the scanner, with the Extreme Upgrade, are also shown in the Easier to Read Manual.
But as I also noted, if the OP was only using location and the main database, then there is no way to add the missing information to the database. It does appear that Ubbe may have manually edited the database section for Ohio and posted that above. Regardless of whether the OP uses Ubbe's mod, or creates a Favorites list either on the scanner or in Sentinel, the new talkgroup for his local S.O. should be submitted to the database.

Ok...so can you explain or give direction to the person asking about "another" way to "manually "program his unit as he asked?
I think you are missing my point. I'm well aware that information can be added to a Favorites list, when a list is active and being used by the scanner. I also stated that, unless the OP was using a Favorites list, he could not add the new talkgroup, as using location and the main database limits you to what the database has on a given system. That's why, if the new TGID is confirmed, then it should be submitted to the database. I have not seen the OP acknowledge one way or the other if a Favorites list is being used. Based on the comments, I suspect there is no Favorite list in play.

I indicated that information (programming) can be added to a Favorites list via Sentinel, and provided a link to instructions on doing it. (You apparently did not take that as acknowledging that a Favorites list can be edited in Sentinel, when in fact it can, as the link shows.)

It also can be added directly on the scanner, if the end user had the Extreme Upgrade, and is using a Favorite list. Again, there was a link to that process.

The file that Ubbe posted is an edited Ohio database file, with the new information added. That should work to put the new TGID into the HP-1/-2 database if manually copied to the correct location, however the next database update downloaded into Sentinel will reset it back to the current RRDB status, meaning the that unless the TGID 54806 has been submitted and updated in the main database, then the "manual update" would no longer be available to access with location/range/& the main database. If Sentinel accesses the revised file correctly, the OP's scanner should pull up the new TGID until the next update is downloaded & written to the scanner.

Use sentinel software and put in what you want. I have programmed several with Henry Co. So far so good

Since you live nearby, I have some questions I would like to discuss, is there a way we could communicate privately?

If I can get your phone number, I'll call you

The matter has become moot, and it won't be necessary.

I was going to ask about programming the Henry Co. S.O. for MARCS-IP, but since they will be going to the Northwest Ohio Regional Public Safety System soon, I already have that programmed in and will wait for them to make the switch.

But thank you for your consideration in any case.

I have all the programming information for the new system. The only department that hasn't switched to it is the Sheriff's office. I have all the TGIDs now and am currently working on the individual IDs for each radio. Ask around, a lot of people find their way out here and I haven't let them down yet. Its your call.

Here is a picture of the layout of home patrol 2 that I programmed 3 weeks ago for a local HAM radio operator. He seemed happy.

Yep, I have TGID 13778, but the freq. of 773.70625 is unknown to me and is not in the RR database for Napoleon PD.

The freqs. I have for Napoleon PD are 771.71875, 772.13125, 772.14375, 772.63125, and 772.64375.
