To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hello

Anybody here have any experience with tuning down the power wattage for the transmitter so one can "legally" use an HT1250 on the multi use radio channels.

I'm aware the radio does not meet the exact MURS specifics but it seems to be that if the radio can be tuned to meet the standards why not?

Any help would be appreciated.

Such as
Manufacturer spec low power wattage. Did a search couldn't seem to find the low power mode specific wattage and if it would meet the 2 watt threshold.

As long as the radio is ONLY used on MURS frequency's, then the radio is legal at 5 watts VHF and 4 watts UHF.

The problem is that some people are starting to put the FRS/GMRS frequency's into radio's and these DO NOT meet the rules.

According to the F.C.C. website, MURS is limited to NO MORE than 2 watts transmitter output and not 5 watts output.

Thanks for the reply.

My radio is mainly used for public safety (fire fighter) however I was going to have a separate zone for MURS with my friends under low power.

I'm guessing the low power would be that 5 watt?

Motorola specs for my radio are listed as TX power 1-5 watts.

Confused it that is 1W low power

And 5W high power???

If this is correct low power would be acceptable for this application.

Answered this in the GMRS/FRS forum as well for ya. Typically while the radios can be tuned below 2W, the low-power setting is usually just at or just above the 2W setting for "low-power". From experience while its possible to tune below 2W the PA on the HT1250 can become unstable.
