If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

i have a ht1000 it transmits fine and sounds like it is receiving a good signal but the volume will not increase. Adding a mic to the radio does not improve the volume. It’s almost like the volume knob isn’t working.

Update: maybe someone who knows these will be able to say for sure but through some trial and error I believe the ribbon cable to the controls is bad. The radio had decent audio previously. Now I only have channel 1. 2-16 do not work. And I have the red transmit light but no green light on start up. It dose transmit on frequency one just fine and it receives fine but the audio is at 0

Control flex bad, put radio in test mode per service manual and verify debounce on all buttons/switches- if they fail, you know what you need. For as old as these radios are, might be less trouble to just pick up a replacement radio. They cost less than what a typical fast food meal does these days.

Ok so I took it apart and cleaned the cable. It had some corrosion on it. Now it has no power at all. Where are you finding them for that cheep? I am looking for an R or S split with the D variation.

Ebay or FB Market place. If you pay more than $30-$50 for one with an antenna, battery and charger, you are paying too much.

Any particular reason you are set on an HT 1000? Tons of better options out there these days, with many that are programmable on modern computers with USB cables.

It’s not just the ht1000. But there’s a few reasons I’ll list a few.
Cost, I like the look of them, they are built tough and can take it. They don’t look like anyone else’s. Less likely to get stolen in my environment.
I want something cheep and reliable that can take a beating and that I’m not afraid to destroy if it were to come to it. I already have most of the programming software for RSS. I like the look of older radios. I have 2 p110 and one working ht1000.

I’m not against other radios. What other radios would you recommend that could fit what I am looking for? It’s just that they are typically expensive.

Even an HT1250 would be quite the upgrade. Windows programming and USB programming cable. Plus a display and more than 16 channels, won't break the bank

HT1000 channel set to wideband listening to narrow band
That was my guess too and maybe ch. 2-16 are set for not programmable and receive only. Might be a good idea to see if the channels will squelch by pushing the monitor button if there is a side button programmed

The XTS1500 are good radios and can be had for about $50 and a majority of the audio accessories are compatible between the Jedi Series radios and the XTS series radios.

If you're trying to stay vintage, VISARs may work for you and can be had for about $30 and uses the same RSS as the HT1000 radios.

I have a newer windows laptop 10 or 11 I don’t remember. But I have cps. I believe it is the R06.12.05. The one with wide band enabled. Is that to new for the ht1250?

What is the difference between the ht1250 and ht1550XLS?

Before I lost all power I had programmed the radio previously (a few weeks before) so I knew the channels programmed. But there was no sign of life on any channel other than 1. Now there is no power

I’ve looked at the XTS series but I wasn’t sure if my set up was capable of programming them. I have the true dos computer and the newer windows 10 or 11 I don’t remember. But I have cps. I believe it is the R06.12.05. The one with wide band enabled.
Is that the right software for the XTS? If not will the software work with this laptop?

I will have to get a usb connector cable as I only have a serial cable.

Get a MTS2000 instead. Exact same looking with many more features, uses the same accessories, uses newer CPS which can be found anywhere, & only a few bucks more.

That's exactly the CPS you would need for the HT1250

The HT1550 has FPP and a few other features you wouldn't really need. I'd honestly avoid it because parts are rather hard to find for them

There is no narrowband only CPS for the MTS2000. A Windows XP laptop would be perfect for the MTS. Windows 10-11 is too new, & DOS is too old. I try to use a radio, & laptop from the same time frame. Some people can slow down their newer laptops to work with older radios, but I don’t bother since older working laptops are very inexpensive.

Sounds like you may have the Professional Radio Service CPS for the HT750/1250/1500 and CDM series radios and the CPS runs on a 32-Bit XP Windows OS. I don't believe it will run on Winfows 10 or 11. It may run on Windows 7, but I am not sure about that. In some cases the CPS may load and launch, but the radio will not communicate with the computer.

The XTS requires the Astro 25 Portable CPS and will run on Windows 7 and definitely on Windows 10 and 11 and you will need the RIBless cable for the XTS series.

The XTS1500/2500/5000 never needed a RIB.

With the right USB cable, they show as a modem in the device manager. If you get a UART cable, they use a comport.

Last release of CPS runs on modern hardware. Strongly recommend getting a true USB cable for programming, rather than a UART cable.
