Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

So ive started this project and im using a 1250 to test as a "gateway" for some of my 1550`s to interop with zello and its coming along fine but its only transmit from the 1550s right now, no recieve. I had an idea of maybe snipping a hands free unit and soldering some 1/8in connectors to the mic and speaker cables so itd run right from the radio into the mic and headphone jacks of a computer. im just not sure which pin is which. Can an HT1250 be put into VOX? what do you guys think?

Thanks!!

I think I'd pick up a used CDM-750 for less than $100 bucks. With the 20 pin connector on the rear, it's got all the correct inputs and outputs to do what you want.
No need to reinvent the wheel.

I have an extra 1550 laying around and I have the pin diagram, I’m just not sure honestly which to pull audio from, in or out.

Depends on what you are doing with it.

If this is two way Zillow connection,
For audio output from the radio:
Pin 11 = Flat RX Audio
Pin 7 = Ground

For audio input to the radio:
Pin 2 = External Mic Audio
Pin 7 = Ground
Or:
Pin 5 = Flat TX Audio Input
Pin 7 = Ground

You'd have to program one of the input pins to act as a PTT. I don't recall if this will do VOX, but ideally you'd not want that. Any noise on the mic circuit (audio hum) could trigger the transmit. You might have to fabricate a small audio signal sensor switch to trigger the PTT. Just make sure the sensitivity is set correctly.

What would the difference be in wiring the input one way or the other? I know the radio itself will do VOX, as many people are using them as repeater radios. Audio hum.. yeah.. out of the radio into the computer will be no problem as I can filter that but coming back might present an issue. I guess we’ll see how good a soldering job I can do lol. Thanks! I’ll post success or fail once I give it a try!

The difference would be what the audio source is feeding the audio input to the radio. If it's line level out of the PC, then you'd have to pad it way down to use the mic input. I -THINK- the flat TX audio input is a higher level input.

I've never seen one being used as a repeater with vox. Generally, you have a COR signal off the receive which then triggers the PTT on the transmit radio. No VOX circuitry needed.
