HT1250 Error (Help!)

I didn't see a Motorola forum so I am posting here.

I got the following error while programming the radio yesterday.


EEPRM CS ERROR (On front display).

This is the error I get when I try to "read" the radio.

Image is corrupted. Checksum for R/W region failed.



Is this fixable, even if I have to take it to a dealer? Also, anyone know what it might cost me. I got the radio off of ebay and this is the only problem I have had since owning it. I was opening a word document while the CPS was programming the radio.

It sounds like you have written an invalid codeplug to the radio. The only option you have I believe is to try to write to the radio a known good codeplug (without reading first). That should probably do the trick.

If that doesnt work then its off to the depot which I would imagine would run you in the $200-$300 range.

I have 105 channels in the radio. Or, do I just try to write to the radio?

I tried what you said in the previous post. I just did a write to the radio w/ no read and it worked.

I don't have any VHF code plugs. Turn the radio off for a minute and turn back on. Then try writing to the radio 1st. I think that's how I fixed my problem, if I remember from 3 yrs ago.

Do you have a liget copy of the CPS. I know what you can down load it off the net on some sites and it is a hacked version. When the Depot get is and sees that the confiscate the radio.

An "EEPRM CS ERROR" is not always user correctable. Try sending a different CP multiple times. Or, sometimes a flash upgrade will cure the problem. (Most radio shops can do this). If not, then there is no other alternative then sending it back to the depot. Typical depot price is going to be $200-$300.

Depot will charge you not confiscate the radio. You may be having an issue reading the radio if it has been progammed with a newer version of the CPS. Your version is no longer useable on that radio.

BTW Depot is now in Mexico.

- Good one, Grog! I just got the biggest laugh out of that!

There is no such thing as a 'hacked' CPS - once you get your hands on it (and I don't care to hear how or when or why), there's no serial number needed or cracked executable required to make it run.

The only 'hack' you can really do to CPS is a well-known hex edit to the ASTRO25 CPS that lets you push certain radios out of their default band plan. I know, because I've done it & use it quite successfully. My R1 UHF XTS5K is pushed from it's max of 470 MHz to 490 MHz.

The only way the Depot would confiscate a radio is if the serial comes back red-flagged as a stolen unit...

I never had a radio do anything like that so I personally do not have proof. I do know of someone that did have it confiscated after sending it in. As for the hack with the hex editor that has been around for a while, and no biggie until you start talking on something that you are not allowed to.

You can still alter the CPS or DOS version if you still use radios that use it. Once you alter it in any way it is hacked.

Just wanted to vent, to anyone who will listen, I hate all of Motorola's engineers, either software or hardware, I believe thier sole purpose on this world is to make my life miserable, and they do that well. I work for a company that is a dealer, and every day I struggle with a "world war" of supporting big "M"'s equipment. I can't wait to get a new career.

Wonder what your problem is with Motorola? If things different break who would need a tech? Without that you might be homeless.

If you have updated CPS from MOL it's not a problem. If it's more than you shop can do you can always send the radio to the Mexican depot. What's the problem. Today it's part changing unless you are doing board level repairs and most shops don't since it's not cost effective.

I have this same error! i made the mistake though of not saving the original codeplug. yes i know stupid move on my part. Is there any way someone can e-mail me a Codeplug For a HT1250 403-470 mhz with full keypad? it would be greatly appreciated
