To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hey all.. Excellent source of information here on RadioReference!! Hoping the experienced crowd can help me with this.

Here's the deal, I have a fully programming HT1250 that works great! (Thanks PA_Firefighter) However, I would like to tweak one thing. Channel 2 (my dispatcher) is set to QuickCall Tones and will open up if my tones come through, OR if I have it on monitor... Problem is, when on monitor, when my tones come through it doesn't notify via the quickcall "incoming call" method...

So my question. I would like to add a seperate channel that is open (monitoring) but still responds to my tones...

So, is this possible? I have the cable and an older version of the software (however it works with Vista!) from when I did programming for our dept.

Any insight would be awesome.

Thanks,

-Corey

Are the A & B Frequencies correct? some of them can go off a bit but when control plays the tones, it will atleast round it up to the nearest frequency and go off.. hope i said that right.

Now QC for channel 2? someone else may have an answer for that, i dont wanna put something that im not sure is right since i tried putting 2 channels with QC but i didnt see it working out so i just stayed with one frequency with QC

I have a related question. I have my FD tones set up in a seperate zone, so zone 3 only had 1 channel. How do I open or close it however? It is always open. When I go to the pager channel I get the entire county, not just my FD? I have no book for this radio.......

Do you have to programming software?

In the Personality window, under the 'Signaling' tab, the signaling squelch needs to be set for "AND" instead of "OR". That will open up the radio for the correct combination of tones only.

haha, DUH.. Didn't even think about that, I just need to make another channel and have it set to OR (or whatever is oposite of the other I have setup, lol)...

Wow, really wish I thought this through a bit before posting :)...

Thanks,

"AND" will stay muted until the correct tones are sent...

"OR" will stay open

I do not have the software, the guy I purchased it from on here programmed it. How hard is it to get the software and cable? If I was to get it, how hard is it to program?

Motorola sells the software, you'll have to sign an agreement to get it (no big deal), will run you just shy of 300 bucks. Good news is you'll get updates and support for at least a year. The OEM cables are pricey, but you can buy generic ones off Ebay for 25-30 bucks.

You will need to read the documentation that comes with the CPS to learn how to use it. Not that hard IF you've programmed radios before.

The cable is $10 bucks on ebay and the programming software is everywhere on the internet. Just search for it. Once you get the software just play around with it for a little while and it is very easy to understand.

Okay, here's a question for ya... I added the channel.. It's showing up on my channel selection knob, and everything looks good.

However, my radio will NOT let access the scan list while on that channel. If my channel selector knob is on 6 "Dispatch" and I enter the menu, and select program list, and try to select scan list, it just beeps at me...

I can add it from the software, and from other channels, but my concern is it will not scan it may not scan it...

The channel is setup identical to my channel 2 "CATT CNTY F2" which works fine.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Within the Conventional Personality, Scan tab, make sure Scan List 1 is selected, or whichever scan list you are using.

Okay, that worked, but I was under the impression that adding it to Scan List 1 in CPS was the same as doing it through the radio itself.

Regardless, working fine now!!

thanks,

Ok, I ordered the cable. Where can I download the software off the internet?
